Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II
Discussion
Left Unsupervised
It has been an eventful week, I am home alone as Mrs C has gone shopping & sunbathing for a week with her girlfriends. We won a nice new contract at work, I managed to set fire to the waste disposal unit in the kitchen and I bought my first Rolls Royce.
Pending Arrival
The seller's garage is fettling a few items like brakes, AC etc. Hopefully it will be delivered next week, it is a long way from Kent. The anticipation is glorious.
The Investment Thesis (Man Maths)
“Every man has two lives, and the second starts when he realizes he has just one” is a quotation that seems to have been following me all month. It was in a birthday card, on a restaurant menu...
I have been talking / thinking about one of these for the last 10 years. So why the hell not. I have to say Harry Metcalfe spurred me on a little with his Arctic Rolls restoration.
I narrowly missed a two door SS in one of the Silverstone Auctions in lockdown, they have now doubled in value and have become just out of reach. I sense saloons are on their way up so if I look after it and improve it a little it will soften the blow.
Specification
I will hold off posting the dealer photos for now.
As a SS2 it has 6.75 Litre V8, with rack & pinion sterering and disc brakes. Condition is say a B- .
Meticulously maintained by a RR specialist for the last 17 years and it appears the owner has kept on top of everything. The MOT history suggested regular but slight usage.
Unmodified and no special equipment has been fitted. The eight track is still in there and its sitting on the correct Avon tyres.
Quite a rare colour inside and out. All one colour no everflex roof. Suitably subtle.
Yes of course it has had a series of titled keepers... More on that to come.
As I have done with my two Mercedes-Benz I will keep a detailed diary on here. Let's see how this goes.
Delivery was confirmed today for next Wednesday.
I did a some research using the VIN, which is a little short for most of those Car History Check websites.
Used the AA one.
It has had some interesting registration plates at various times, three letters and single digit often, It is currently registered on its allegedly original plate. Which as you’ll see is quite a good one,
Has always been the same colour, no export/import and free from other things they check.
As I’m home alone I have had some time to think of some planned improvements and getting familiar with the firms which will keep this conveyance tip top.
I follow Iain Tyrell online Some advice on handling kits here https://youtu.be/i1Pwe-Pnstg
We’ll see how it drives as intended first.
Also Introcar. https://www.introcar.com/online_catalogues for parts.
Roll on next Wednesday,,…. (Sorry I’ll get my coat)

things i remember loving
1) super skinny steering wheel rim
2) the look down the bonnet was awesome
3) the chrome organ stop vent controls
4) when you shut the boot rest it on the latch and press with one finger, if you slam it the lock mechanism will fail
5) checking the oil by pushing a button on the dash
