BMW G82 M4 Competition
Discussion
Thought I'd add my M4 after a couple of requests, its about a year now since I first drove one and ordered it
My previous fun car was a M235i, my first BMW, I did the normal mods ie Bilstien coilovers, ds2500 pads , rbf fluid, spacers, 400hp remap and few other bits and bobs, just as Covid hit I had a bit saved up for the lsd upgrade and a few other suspension changes but lockdown put pay to that
I also had a 2019 Fiesta ST as my runaround but "Man Maths" kicked in and I thought that perhaps I should downsize the daily and spend a bit more on the fun car as during the restrictions my wife and I had lots of fun drives through the Cotswolds in the 235i and back in 2019 had a two week road trip across the UK in it
I had a shortlist of a few cars namely
Lexus RCF, Toyota Supra (A90), Kia Stinger, BMW M4 F82, M2 Comp
I drove the Lexus and the Supra, had driven the F82 before (comp and non comp dct) but not the M2 comp just the M2 OG
Really liked the Lexus and the wife likes the brand but they couldnt/wouldnt do a deal at the time. Hated the Supra and the Kia Stinger had a new model for 2021 that hadn't made its way to dealers at that time so that was out
So once lockdown ended and the dealers opened I had two cars to buy as both the ST and 235 had moved onto new homes
A VW UP! GTi took care of the daily runaround
Popped into the local BMW dealer to check out a 2020 F82 with my desired (and common) spec of Tanzanite Blue with Silverstone leather , but we saw the G82 first and the dealer gave us the keys for an extended test drive of this white one
So decision made, I had my concerns of the F82 more for the wife as the jerkiness of the dct at low speed and hard ride I thought would put her off, the G82 has neither of that
So 20/4/21 the order went in for delivery expected mid July 21, I was able to negotiate a really good deal being an early adopter and I could have changed my order to the x drive but just didnt feel it was worth it to me, the real cost would have been at least £10k more as the deals just weren't as good by the time the xdrive was released
I actually collected the car on the 16th October , long story short was it was sat in Southampton for three months waiting for parking cameras due to the chip shortage, but delays on new car orders are fact of life now
The day it arrived at dealer
Sorry state
So spec is
Tanzanite Blue
Silverstone leather
Comfort pack - Heated steering wheel/Electric bootlid/Comfort access
Visibility pack - Laserlights
Technology pack - Driving assist pro (Active cruise and steering - self drive lite)/Parking assistant plus/drive recorder
Didn't go for the carbon pack as the wife hated the seats and I didn't like the mix of carbon and gloss black in places like the rear diffuser and front grille, I have already fitted a carbon ducktail and reckon the aftermarket industry will fill the other gaps
I told them not to polish the car and give it a light wash only as it went straight to a mate of mine to detail and ceramic coat it (https://www.envycarcare.co.uk/) which BMW paid for as an apology for the extended wait
Collection day it looked nice though
But after it was detailed even better
Covered a little over 2000 miles now. It had its running in service back in Jan and I'm starting to use it more as the weather is decent.
The looks aren't to everyone's taste but its an incredibly capable car and real step forward for the model imo, the grip is amazing even with P Zeros. Its sensible on fuel averaging about 26mpg. I'm a fan of the ZF having had one in my XFR and 235i although the mapping is very different on all of them so no surprises there its a great mix of smoothness and speed.
I lent it to James (Jayemm) who gave his thoughts on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7Ua3b9MZqY&li...
The colour really pops in the sun
Downsides?
Yes its big and heavy, it hides with weight well because the chassis and suspension is so good. Its easy to drive very very quickly and not notice. Parking could be awkward if not for the cameras, I still have little idea where the front ends but tend to reverse into spaces anyhow. The Harmon Kardon system is disappointing ,lacks volume and low end although the staging is good. Its too quiet , the curse of the OPF unfortunately , finally the wheels are a sod to clean

Lovely colour, congrats on your new M car
Interesting as I can't recall seeing a single M3 on the roads around here yet and only a couple of M4s; compared to when the F8* series were released, I was seeing them everywhere within 6 months of release, was wondering if things like the chip shortage that delayed the delivery of yours may be playing a part

I’ll admit to not being a fan of the looks, but that is a cracking colour combination and the performance certainly can’t be argued with.
The carbon seats seem quite divisive; look good but also look like a pain for daily use due to the high thigh supports.
Those wheels do look like an absolute nightmare to clean.

The carbon seats look great but aren’t easy to get in and out of and for the driver they are comfy but they force the passenger to put their legs straight out and my missus prefers to sit at an angle , she found them a deal breaker and I’m happy enough with the stock ones
I'd like the carbon seats, but as you say they do seem to be quite a bit of a compromise though. The standard seats still look really nice, especially so with the colour that you've gone for. f1ten said:
Great choice of spec. Tanzanite is fabulous. Nearly bought f80 in that colour but went for San Marino blue in the end. 2 of the best colours available on any car in my view.
I haven't driven an f82 yet but given the performance of my old f80 I'm sure it's a but sharper.
They are both 2 of my favourite colours as well. I'm also a fan of Le Mans Blue having had both the X5 4.8iS/E90 330i in that colour. I haven't driven an f82 yet but given the performance of my old f80 I'm sure it's a but sharper.
