Maserati Granturismo S MC Shift
Discussion
Evening all,
I am delighted to say that tomorrow morning I am going to be collecting this.
It is a 2009 Maserati Granturismo S MC Shift in my perfect spec.
- GRIGIO METALLIC
- POLTRONA FRAU LEATHER CUOIO
- BOSE SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM
- GRIGIO MERCURY NEPTUNE DESIGN
- ALCANTARA HEADLINING COLOUR UPON REQUEST
- FRONT SEATS COMFORT PACK
- INTERIOR TRIM - PIANO BLACK
- SKYHOOK - ELECTRONICALLY VARIABLE ACTIVE DAMPING SYSTEM
It has FSH with its next service required in 23 months or 11,000miles. 2 owners and 30,500miles. Clutch wear report complete and showing 56% so I am aware it will need one in the coming years.
Upon collection I will update and continue to update my ownership.

Thank you for all the kind remarks.
Collection went without issue. Car was presented beautifully sharing a garage with a Ferrari 360, Lamborghini LP640 & a Ferrari 458 Spéciale.

I’m from Berkshire and the car was located in Retford so I have taken a drive via Chatsworth House for lunch and on to Ranmoor to see family.
First impressions of the car are that it’s an event in Sport MC-S and feels very well put together. Loving every minute of it!
Something I wasn’t prepared for was the attention it gets - sadly this is mostly from 20 -55 year old men!

Congratulations- looks lovely- especially the interior. I have a 2013 GTS auto in blue. Bought earlier this year and it continues to live up the hype- every journey is an experience. Only downside is the infotainment. Get yourself on the Sports Maserati forum if you aren’t already- good bunch of knowledgeable folk.
I promised to keep my ownership antics up to date, however it hasn’t been completely clean sailing but we’re coming to end of it now.
As documented above, the Saturday I collected the car was joyous. The theatre, enjoyment and 1st day, new car feeling was great.
However, the morning after I noticed a small leak on the rear axle leaving c.1p of blue/clear oil on the drive in 24hours. On the drive back to Berkshire from Sheffield the roads were rather dirty and it was then apparent that the washer jets were not working and the pump wasn’t engaging. The joyous feeling was starting to wane.
I reported these faults to the seller, who I am very happy to report has been absolutely brilliant from start to finish. They advised me to have it looked at at a garage of my choosing and then a plan could be formed. After much research and whilst not the closest, the car went into Sportsitalia, Hampshire for a check up on the above and full report.
As you can imagine from a 11 year old car, there were other faults and the estimate to rectify these resulted in me formally rejecting the car. Something I really didn’t want to do.
At this point I want to make it known, Simon and David at Autologix, Retford we’re brilliant offering to either collect the car with a full refund or pay for the work(s) to be completed, to which I chose the latter. I won’t go into too much detail on the exact details but the car was made useable for a short trip to France to be returned to Sportsitalia where it has been for a few weeks (mostly awaiting parts) but it will come away with the following having been completed;
- new clutch (old one was at 69% wear as the PIS was incorrectly adjusted meaning the wear report previously was incorrect thus showing less wear)
- new hydraulic pipes both high and low pressure for the MC Shift. (A cross threaded high pressure pipe was the cause of the leak)
- New pads all rounds (discs on its next visit sadly)
- undersealed (While the box was out I was mad not to do this)
- new thermostat housing
- new cam gasket
- front bushes, top and bottom.
- new front headlight washer and system repiped (pump was fine)
Anyone in the know will understand the cost of the above and my wallet hasn’t come away unscathed.
The clutch I have paid for, box was out to complete the hydraulic work so it seemed silly not to do.
Underseal is just something that these cars require.
Thank you to Ash and Matt at Sportsitalia for the advice and work completed.
The honesty and integrity of Simon and David at Autologix has also been very refreshing and I have caught up with them a fair bit since buying the car. Great service. I would 100% buy another car from them and seeing their stock I fear I may sooner rather than later.
In France
And where has spent the past few weeks
Next it another trip to France then Le Mans in June, Italy in July and Belgium in August.

Keeping my ownership updated.
Owning an Italian car was never going to be trouble free but with any issues that have arrived I have learnt to love and not resent the car like so many cars I have before.
Small issue
Since our last trip to France I have been mostly enjoying the car covering c.4000miles of joyous sounding motoring. I have however been fighting the rear axle/diff/gearbox leak but I am pleased to note that it has now been identified as a driveshaft seal into the box located on the rear axle. It does mean however we have replaced pretty much the whole F1 pipe system, a new clutch and had the box out 3 times but pleased that we now know what the issue is.
Apple CarPlay
I am not one to modify cars but the OEM nav system is poor at best. Wanting to keep the originality I opted to buy a replacement like for like system and put Apple CarPlay on this and install. In short it looks exactly like it would from the factory but with a flick of a switch is bang up to date with full Apple CarPlay connectivity. This was installed by Matt at Sportitalia.
Now
It's quite the event when driving and people genuinely compliment it. I was always an admirer before ownership but what I wasn't prepared for was the attention it gets with people taking pictures often. I feel a bit of a fraud as its no more valuable than a highly specced 3 series and there are plenty of bigger and better cars locally. That said, I will always engage with people and am doing 2 proms for neighbours FOC.
Currently it is stickered up for Le Mans and looks like this.

It’s MOT time which means almost 1 year of ownership.
If my experience is anything to go by Maserati ownership makes perfect sense. A genuine grand tourer that has covered 10,000miles round Europe over a year with family and friends.
So there is nothing really to report. Glorious drives with 5 trips to the continent completing 10,000miles. This does however mean it required a service in Jan.
It’s currently with the gents at Sportsitalia for new tires, a check over and MOT.

Exactly 1 year to the day of ownership!
As documented above I have been using my car, often with my wife and son to travel Europe and much of the Uk. Ben from Dadcars dropped this video this evening.

I saw you in the GT heading north through Brittany this afternoon. Thought I recognised the plate from somewhere! I was in the grey XF on UK plates.
Ah yes, I remember you and your car. We were making good progress between roundabouts and the French. I was rather hungover following the NYE festivities rushing for a ferry that was ultimately delayed 4 hours - joy! Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
