First Porsche - 987.2 Cayman
Discussion
Recently purchased my first Porsche, and in fact my first actual sports car really..
It's a 2009 Cayman 987.2 - 2.9 litre engine with a 6 speed manual 'box, finished in Aqua Blue metallic.
Few factory options according the paperwork in the file, most notably the hardback sports seats with heating and embossed logo, and a few other basics like rear wiper, rear park assist etc.
Added by previous owner(s) were: 19" Carrera Classic wheels, H&R 35mm springs, calipers professionally refubrihsed in Porsche yellow.
These photos are from the advert as I haven't had chance to clean it or take any of my own yet:

Plans - It's up to date on servicing so needs nothing in the short term.. It'll be my daily driver although mainly working from home for the past year and going forward, so mileage will be quite low for a while..
I need to stock up on new detailing supplies so I can just keep it clean and looked after really,a nd hopefully enjoy some nice drives this summer. If restrictions allow, I plan to drive over to Europe for a short holiday.
In terms of mods, nothing urgent but I'm considering: Zunsport grilles, at least the outer front bumper ones for protection; Stereo upgrade, it only has CD, FM and Aux connection so ideally swap that for a double-din screen with CarPlay / Android Auto for nav, bluetooth etc; Exhaust - might go down the Carnewal route as it seems really good value, and that could tie-in with the trip to Europe at some point..

Great cars these, still miss my 2.9. Mine also had the sports seats which are not that common. I can thoroughly recommend Carnewal and its an easy day trip to Gert to have it done in Belgium. They make a great european roadtrip car, and you can fit in an incredible amount of stuff using both boots.

For a mid-engine 2 seater they are surprisingly practical aren't they! Yeah I was hoping to stop by their workshop on the way, do a weekend in Bruges possibly.GregK2 said:
Potentially in the market for one of these soon and this one had caught my eye on AT. Looks a fantastic example, keep us updated on the ownership, enjoy!
Cheers dude, will do. I've been looking at them tentatively for a while, this one stood out so glad to have managed to grab it
Lovely car, especially nice to see one in blue!
I bought a very similar 987.2 Cayman 2.9 in silver last year and I’m also using it as my daily driver. I stated a thread on it here if you fancy a read. Mine also has some suspension mods and a Carnewal exhaust which sounds absolutely amazing. I’m not getting very good mpg but it’s bloody marvellous fun

I adore that color. Mine is in Leasing Silver, which is o-kay at the best of times. But Aqua is just fabulous.
Thanks! I'm usually more of a red fan but really happy with this blue.. I think they're a great looking car in any colour honestlyAh so it was you who stole this from under my nose
Only kidding (sort of). It caught my eye too on AT - really stood out as a great example with those wheels and calipers against the blue.
Your OP could have mirrored my plans tbh; stereo upgrade, maybe exhaust, WFH situation, Europe this year. That just rubs it in all the more! The missus loved it too.
I reckon you’ve bought an absolute corker there.

Ah sorry dude! I noticed that interest had started increasing after I first enquired about the car so had to act fast if I wanted it, and it ahd to coincide with my company car going back etc.. all a bit hectic. Very happy with it so far though

The clutch was heavy, and seemed to lack a distinct feeling of 'bite', but I assumed that was relatively normal for the car, having come from a recent chain of new, small-engined economy cars, so I assumed it was just something I'd get used to.
It didn't really feel as if it was slipping and I'd been driving relatively gently / not pushing the car hard while still getting used to it..
A couple of weeks ago when driving to my office, with the car up to temperature, as I began accelarating onto a slip road in third gear, I felt the revs rise quickly but the car didn't really accelerate.. I wasn't sure what it was, I thought maybe I hadn't fully engaged the gear! So I eased off, reselected the gear and carried on. On the motorway, I again accelerated smoothly in fourth gear, and the same thing occured, which had me concerned.
When I got to the office I did some ringing around and research online that confirmed it was the clutch. Whenever I've experienced clutch slippage or failure in the past, it's been on relatively old or poorly maintained cars, and is noticeable when trying to pull away from a standstill. In this case, it was slippage on acceleration instead, which I hadn't experienced before - and the clutch pedal 'feel', in hindsight, would probably be noticeable to someone with experience, but being the first one I'd driven, I couldn't compare to previous experience.. I did a few '4th gear uphill pull' tests to confirm it as advised by some online threads etc.
Anyway long story short, I phoned around about half a dozen specialists around the West Mids for prices and availability, eventually going with Ramus Porscha in West Bromwich, who had a 3 week lead time anf quoted £780 supplied and fitted same-day.
Well the difference is night-and-day! I took it very easy on the drive home (motorway traffic prevented any real accelaration anyway!) but in traffic and when pulling away, it feels excellent now. Not super-light (although I dislike featherweight clutches anyway), but very slick, sharp, and with a distinctive biting point - basically what it should've been like anyway! I actually stalled a couple of times in the stop-start traffic as it was like driving a different car
Great service by Ramus Porscha too, no complaints. They checked the dual-mass flywheel while the clutch was being done and confirmed no issues with it, which was a huge relief to the wallet
Lookign forward to putting some fun miles on it now that's sorted

That didn't take long, unexpected? Such a good looker, I'm seriously on the lookout now but none on the market currently appeal
Kinda unexpected, yeah. I'd only done a couple hundred miles since purchasing, as I'm still mostly working from home.
