Hi there.

I realised that I have had this for a year now and have become rather attached to it.

I first saw the new MINI in the flesh at Motorshow at the NEC in 2001 and remember being very impressed by the design, bet being a 'big GT car guy' didn't feel it was something I'd want. However it stuck because I still nosed around one every so often.

I very nearly got a job that would involve commuting in about 2012 and went down to the MINI dealer, priced up a Cooper SD and picked colours and everything.

This is the brochure:

I picked out Ice Blue as it looks great on the Brochure and based on the idea that it would be fun to imitate a retro Mini colour on a MINI!

But it wasn't to be.

Time passed and I found myself in a position where I didn't need my 530d anymore and wanted something sportier and smaller as a daily. Living near Exmoor I wanted something fun, so went and looked at a MINI again.

Not impressed with the newest version for it's looks or the way it feels (too grown up) I went looking for the one I didn't buy.

By chance Westerly Barnstable had a MCS in Ice Blue for sale!

Perfect colours and a good spec, with heated screen and soft black leather (Punch).

A deal was done and I bought it over the phone as I was abroad at the time.

29 January 2020 I picked her up. Loved it, such fun and a real change from what I have owned before.

Took her out for a drive and picked up some fuel...

...and a bin blew over.

Luckily the guys at the garage were very apologetic and agreed to pay for a smart repair or to co-operate if I pursued it through insurance.

I got a local dent guy out who disappeared it and all is well again!

Treated her to a set of fitted plates once I transferred my private plate over and am still enjoying it!

Best bit is a Thermos tea cup fits in the cup holder, perfect for socially distanced walks!

3000 miles, 1 year, a coil pack replaced on warranty, a blown over bin and a lot of smiles!

Plans in the future may include fitting heated seat elements, a flat boot floor conversion to loose the back seat and give room for Golf Clubs and stuff and a stubby aerial, but not much else.

Very nice OP.

My girlfriend has exactly the same colour on her F56 Cooper S.

That it's like an original Mini shade is why I like that colour. First time I saw a MINI that colour I stepped into a MINI showroom to ask them what it was called.

BTW - It's Barnstaple with a P.

DOH! This is the problem with being from the West Country and spelling things how you say them.

Chimberly, where the smoke come out your house!

Nice colour combination.. Am glad you got a good repair after the bin blew over on it - Is never nice when your pride-and-joy gets damaged... Glad you are enjoying it and like the custom-fit rear number plate...!

Liking this colour!

I had an ignition coil fail in mine about 18 months ago, and shortly after another one went. I just changed the remaining ones and now carry a couple of spares (the old ones that hadn't gone).

Small update, and some pictures coming...

A Phucking Pheasant ran out into the road and ended it's life via the driver's side fog light.
So the bracket that holds the fog light and the lower grille surround and the brake air duct are all smashed. (about 80 leptons for those who care).

Ordered the new parts via BMW and have a sprayer on standby to paint the lower grille surround the right colour as they come primed.

Will take some pics and report on the dismantling and reassembly of the front bumper as it happens.

On a brighter note it didn't damage the fog light, and I will be able to get into the inner arches for a look around and to see if any grot exists!

Had the excuse to drive my R56 Mini a couple of times this week, they really are good (minus runflats...) and always cancels any thoughts of moving on.
