Jeeps do not feature all that often in readers cars so I thought I'd introduce you to my 'Snow' and 'Tip' Cherokee. It is a 1995 Cherokee Limited SE 4.0 High Output.
I've had this for 6 years and its a general tootle about truck. This is the third Cherokee I've had since 2007, all with Petrol 4.0i, OHV Straight 6 Cylinder engines. Useful power at 180hp with 290Nm torque.
Over the last three months it has been recomissioned having sat in the barn for a year as I haven't had time to attend to it.
Here it is having had new spotlights fitted... a forgotten pastime of my teenage years. Those spotlights are 'Ring' units purchased in 1985 and they had sat in my father's workshop and then in mine for 34 years! Unopened box from Halfords priced at £11.99. I thought I'd finally use them, there were holes in the bumper anyway.
It in generally good condition and I'm planning to gently restore it over the next year or two... and keep things posted on here... as with my W124 and C216 Mercedes.

A few more Photos...
These are very reliable but yes you will struggle to get more than 20mpg,
Popped a Janspeed stainless steel exhaust on a couple of years back, gives a nice unobstrusive deep note.
It has also been treated to a new period Radio Cassette.... i found a new 'old' stock Alpine unit I could never afford when I was young.

Ace cars, these things are made out of granite!
I had an Orvis on LPG for a year or so, the suspension was goosed at the back so even at low speeds roundabouts made the back end hang out, even with 4wd on. Catching a skid in one of those with the massive steering wheel and slow rack was, erm, exciting. Traded it in, wish I'd kept it now. They are an iconic shape, and just have a certain something about them.

I used to drift mine ‘round wet roundabouts... oh the fun I had.I had an Orvis on LPG for a year or so, the suspension was goosed at the back so even at low speeds roundabouts made the back end hang out, even with 4wd on. Stupid thing to do... but amazing fun.

Doh! meant 4.0 6cylinder......spent too much time looking at newer models as well!
Oh, I was really hoping you meant a V8. There are some really cool conversions out there with AMC, Chrysler or GM V8sI remember someone in a Jeep club years ago (maybe 20) talking about a Rover V8 conversion.....which would offer no benefit over the AMC/Chrysler 4.0 six but with extra unreliability. Someone pointed that out and he abandoned the idea
Thank you for all your replies chaps.. obviously some regret on letting them go!

I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the two I sold.
First XJ 1993
I bought this from a friend in Switzerland in 2007. It is green underneath. Here after a day playing in a quarry teaching the Mrs about 4WD.
I had to sell it,as at the time it was uneconomic to repair, I think Surrey Off-Road wanted £2700 to weld the rear suspension back on.. I sold it to a chap who drove it home to Bulgaria,
Second XJ 1995
This was bought from a Jeep enthusiast in Yorkshire in 2011. It was supplied by Clive Sutton in London and was a Limited SE but with a dealer added 'Stealth' pack. It had black front, rear and side body moudlings, blacked out windows and a spoiler. This spent most of its life purely as a ski car for two brothers in London, had 60k miles on it. I liked it to begin with, it drove brilliantly, eventually the Mrs thought the bodykit looked a bit chavvy and I have to agree it was not ageing well.... so I let it go to get the current green one (more acceptable in leafy Kent) also originally supplied by Clive Sutton earlier in 1995.
Current XJ 1995
In one of its best roles taking the boat down to the river
It would be great to see some of your old or current XJs

Man I love these things. Currently in Canada I keep thinking about buying one as they're relatively cheap and abundant here, and no worse on fuel than the majority of cars (scarily) - Subarus are considered fuel efficient...
The current daily is a V6 Mazda Tribute and it's hard to let it go for something older, less practical, less reliable and probably a touch smaller, but they're just so cool!

That reminds me of a business trip I did to the US back in 1999.
I got a Chevy Blazer as a hire car, and decided I wanted a Jeep Cherokee when I got home.
But once I got home it didn't seem quite so appealing, so I kept my Mercedes 190e.
I still think they look good though - I hope yours treats you well OP!
