The time has arrisen to change the family Range Rover. Fancied something faster and more economical this time, it still has to meet a certain criteria for the most important person in the house.

It has done 80,000 miles, but feels good for them. I love this engine - my 4th car with it.

Somebody on the MBUK club has just done exactly the same thing smile

Lovely cars, I keep telling myself it is ok to buy another diesel and that would be the one.

They carry the mileage so well. Is that the 265bhp version?

Cracking car

The thinking mans SUV. 265bhp and would put most sports cars to shame, air suspension on the rear, 40mpg on a run. What's not too like?

We've had ours for a number of years and can't ever see us parting with it as it does everything so well. Pulls our caravan, wafts to Germany at a great pace with amazing fuel economy all loaded up with kids etc. Brilliant car!

If you're so inclined, a basic remap will see these outdrag an Audi R8 at the lights

In wagon, OP.
Are you still running the Transit for work? Any updates on that?

Do these have auto-close sun roofs? Might avoid another flood damaged write-off.

Love the front on these, much prefer it to the facelift version.

Yes, but I’d not want to rely on it.
I had a panoramic roof issue that was not cheap to sort. frown

Rides well. Buy the V8 for the full waft-o-matic experience.

IIRC it was a chap on one of the MB forums who'd had GAD remap and claimed over 700nm of torque compared to the R8's - 413nm

"That's excellent news! Silly Audi drivers! That's what was awesome when working on the 350cdi we got 800nm of torque out of! Had an Audi R8 4.2 V8 try it on! Lets just say it didn't go to plan for him

Regards

Anthony @ GAD "

EDIT: It was GAD not DMS

Lovely Car OP! I've got a 12 plate C350 estate - I do feel that this era of Mercedes styling is ageing well and the OM642 is a peach!

Because the amount of torque is the only thing that drives performance. Weight, grip, gearing, peak power etc are all irrelevant.

After all, sports bikes are pretty sluggish in a straight line.

I just moved mine on after 2 years with it.

I previously had 2 535d estates and the E class was a revelation. Much smoother engine and quieter cabin in the cruise. It also felt better built and more 'solid'.

Although the x35d ultimately had more performance as it revved on to 5k, the Mercedes felt equally as strong to 4k (at which point it is done). The 35d was slightly more economical over 20k miles by about 2mpg, but I would happily trade that for the increased smoothness of the E350.

Lovely cars - I moved on to an XFR-S which is undoubtedly fabulous, but labouring back down the M40 last night, I kinda hankered for the E350...

I love these, much preferred to the newer model, inside and out. Those big diesels are the perfect blend of pace, economy, range and refinement too, in my humble opinion.
