BMW 320i xdrive Touring

With a new baby having arrived in October I decided to trade in my M135i for something with a bit more space. I didn’t want, or need, a diesel and decided to take a chance on something with significantly less power.

I picked up a 66 plate 320i Xdrive Touring, having searched for a one with decent spec for a few months. One previous owner and only 10,000 miles. I got a good deal and managed to get 3 years servicing (and a rubber boot liner) included after some negotiation.

The power feels more than adequate (despite being over 100 bhp down on the M135i) and I’m really enjoying my first ever automatic gearbox. The four-wheel drive is markedly different to rear-wheel drive and I’ve got to say for most of my driving (commuting) it’s pretty good.

I have some winter tyres arriving next week so I’m looking forward to trying these with the xdrive when we get some snow. The current wheels are 19” and a little on the harsh side (although having had a Clio 200 in the past it’s relative luxury!) so decided to go for 18” winter wheels.

My M135i was poverty-spec so I’m really enjoying all the gadgets, particularly the adaptive LED headlights.

- MSport plus brake package
- Panoramic sunroof
- Reversing caméra
- Heated front seats (driver’s memory)
- Heating steering wheel
- Adaptive LED headlights
- Pro Nav
- Harmon Kardon media
- Comfot access (keyless)

It’s a nice car and they are quick enough for everyday driving. I’ve come to realise cars like these with 150-180bhp are powerful enough for everything (except maybe towing). I think you just drive them as they were intended which is cruising around. The M135i is obviously a bit different with nearly double the power.

Out of curiosity, why didn’t you want a diesel? Also what is it like on fuel?

Daily commute is just 12 miles each way, often in stop/start traffic, so no benefit to using diesel. I was also concerned with DPF issues.

Not measured economy yet but imagine it’s mid 30s.
