£100 Mazda RX8. What could go wrong?!

After a phone call from my Brother asking if I still wanted a cheap project, bit of back and forth, I purchased this 2004 Mazda RX8. This cost me £100! The owner died around 6 months ago, and the wife had tasked a close friend with clearing the house and car. This was heading for the scrap yard so we offered the same £100 the scrappy was offering and went to collect.

It has been parked up for the last 4 months at the side of the road. Dead battery as you can imagine, but a booster pack and a few turns and it jumped into life. Bit of air into one of the tyres and drove it home. Still has 7 months MOT. Is a tad beaten up as you can see, and not all that sure what our plan is with it yet, Stereo/heater not working, but after putting a new battery on the car it starts from hot and cold and everywhere inbetween. With only 64000 miles on the clock I am hoping the engine should be okay

Judging by the rev counter in the video I would say yes. Absolute bargain although probably the fuel economy is too low to use every day. If it was me I would be tempted to give it the clean of it's life keep it as a weekend car.

Great save. Would have been criminal for that to go to the scrappy.

If those original wheels are corrosion free, they are probably worth more than £100 on their own.

It is. The 231 had headlight washers whereas the 192 didn't.

Currently not sure. Its been left at my dads...will be slow progress. I would love to track it, but time and funds might now allow that! Pondering my options.

These are so cheap now, people seemingly can't give them away. A really good car if/when it all works properly. I've thought it would be a fun if invloved project to engine swap a dead one of these to maybe a cheap but relaible 4 pot turbo, maybe a K20 or something...
