Toyota MR2 Mk3 Roadster

I've finally managed to persuade Mrs S that cheap motors are the way forward. Having picked up my P38 RR last week she instantly fell in love. And it so happened that in the dealer showroom there was this lovely little MR2. She was smitten. Later that day, following some beers and pool table action, I bought it! The following week her Infiniti Q30 was flogged back to it's maker and the MR2 collected.

So, onto the car. It's 2002, blcak with black leather, on 70,000 miles. it's got a full Toyota service history with two owners, the last one for 14 years! It's even got new Yokohoma tyres all round - the car is in fantastic condition. It's the third car I've had off this dealer in 3 months, the P38 and a Twingo Gordini. I love every one of them!

The drive is fantastic, I've never had a mid engined car before and it is a great experience. The engine noise (which isn't a particularly great one TBH) directly behind your ears immediately makes it feel a bit special. And it's got a cassette player and a double DIN stereo unit. I reckon it's a better drive than the MX5 Mk2 I had a few years back (runs for cover).

I sure you know but keep an eye on the oil level on the 1ZZ engine and just enjoy the M/E RWD lay out .

Thanks for the tip re oil, I'll keep an eye on it - any other tips? I bought the car on a bit of a whim and absolutely zero research!

Great car, you're right they're a great drive, truly engaging and fun - beware though with the MR layout you don't get much warning when the rear does let go!

I had an early (X Plate) one, it was a lovely thing but an oil user unfortunately. I quickly tired of it and traded it for a Mk3 MX5 which was more comfortable, torquier and didn't use oil... but ultimately not as much fun. Looking back I should have spent the difference converting the MR2 to 2ZZ power

I've got a big soft spot for these. I had a mk3 facelift until last year (sadly I wrote it off one cold wet November night when the back end stepped out on me. I was carrying a bit too much speed leaving a roundabout though... so can't really blame the car). Lovely darty handling, but a pain to catch if it let go (as the poster above mentioned)

I drilled the air box on my one (on the cold air side) which gave the car a nice bit of subtle induction roar. The handling was lovely, and the second to third shift action felt great on my one. Engine was rather dull, but great fuel economy made up for it.

Not many just the rear sub frame can rust out but can be swapped out easy and the handbrake cables can go .

As you can see I have had a lot of fun in my first year so just enjoy .

really like these, recently sat and priced up how much it would cost to build a well sorted 2zz.
