Hi all,

Been a lurker on this site for as long as I can remember, but only just got around to signing up. I've had a quite standard car history so far:

Citroen Saxo (I know I know!)
Seat Leon Mk1 TDI
VW Golf Mk4 GTI (180)

At the age of 21 I was then given the opportunity to move to America (Charlotte NC to be more precise).

Chevrolet Cruze hatchback (1st car over here had to be quite boring as very high insurance for someone with no driving experience + cheap payments)

In May I then started a new job which coincidentally came right around 3 years of driving in the states (when insurance drops considerably). My new job involves a lot of travelling. Mostly to the airport which is 5 miles away so no need for something with good MPG, but also the occasional trip to customers about 3 hours away. I am an engineer so carry quite a lot of tools and equipment, especially on the driving jobs. Also, the jobs I go to often involve sites with some limited access (dirt roads) and it is better for me if I can get as close to our equipment as possible which often means going cross country.

With all this considered, I had a truck in mind. After much looking I decided something in the mid size range would be a good fit for me. I already liked the Chevrolet platform and their service at the local dealership, so started looking at the Colorado model. It took 5 minutes at the dealership and in the truck to decide on the one I wanted...oops.

8 inch touch screen with apple car play
Towing package
Just about every optional extra other than navigation which doesn't bother me because of the apple car play and unlimited internet on my phone

So far I have put just over 4000 miles on it and absolutely love it in every way. Its a beast on the road. Chevrolet did a really nice job with the suspension on this one. Considering its tailored to off roading, it handles really well on the road, and I mean really well. Drives almost like a car. Off road it will go absolutely anywhere you want it to go. I haven't taken it off road much so far but will start a lot more over Autumn/Winter. MPG is exactly what you would expect from something like this...17mpg average over the life of the truck so far. Luckily it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Gas prices are really cheap here, plus anything work related is reimbursed by my company. Sorry about the lack of pictures for now. Currently away with work but will get some more up soon. Zr2 's a nice. The current generation Colorado's/canyons are really good trucks if not a little on the small side.

How come you didn't go for the baby duramax if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for the comments! I tested the duramax and while it was nice, the performance of the V6 was much better and felt like a much nicer drive. 0-60 was sub 7 seconds in the gas and almost 10 in the diesel. I also don't do anywhere near enough towing to justify the extra torque.

Cool truck and on good tyres

17mpg is 20.4mpg Imperial. Not bad considering the size, engine and power...

I still don't understand why JLR don't want a slice of a market like this, in the USA and in the UK/EU.
