2017 Bmw M140i
Discussion
Picked this beauty up on Monday. M140i shadow edition. Pretty basic spec, parking sensors, HK sound system, folding mirrors. My third car, first was a fiat "grande" punto 1.4. Kept it for 1 year. Then had an astra gtc 2.0 cdti for 2 years, got bored if it quickly. Now this, quite a jump first rwd. Insurance isn't too bad for a 21 year old male, 300 more than the astra.
First impressions are great, I love the styling with it being the shadow edition, dark wheels, lights and grills etc. Colour is also really nice, albeit too popular. I like how subtle is it, looks like a 120d to most.
interior on the LCI 2 is a really nice place to be, loads of soft touch materials, standard nav is much better than expected Spotify integration (not good) , weather updates etc. Footwell is a bit cramped with it being manual, little bit less space than my astra but not bad. Seats are great, could be a bit more supportive on the side but they look nice and subtle. Plenty of boot space and good for 2 rear passengers. Hk system is good, better than expected. Still getting used to all the controls, everything does seem very intuitive.
The engine is amazing, only 300 miles so taking it easy, but it feels like a jet when you want it to. Around town it's brilliant, easy to drive slowly. The gear box is very notchy, although not really a downside. Getting into reverse is a pain, and 6th doesn't feel great but it's good overall. 1st gear does feel a bit too short imo. Fuel consumption is as expected awful, but should get better when it's run in. Currently around 18mpg, quite a shock from the astra. Exhaust is very quiet, maybe too quiet. The steering is totally numb, my main downside to the car.
Have got a few plans, ceramic coating soon, new mid pipe to make it sound a bit louder, maybe an intake too. M style mirror caps in grey to be bought soon, as well as Maxton kit. Not going to consider any power mods until I fit a lsd, it can hardly handle the power as it is imo.
Overall very happy with the car, bargain of a car in my opinion. Good discount with pcp using a well known online dealer. Will try and get some more pictures soon, if I can stop driving it.

Obviously not run in yet but 18mpg doesnt sound right at all?
I had a test drive of one just last weekend, did about 20 miles in a good mix of town, A-road, motorway and wasn't exactly driving economically. I reset before we left and when we got back the computer said 31mpg.... It was the auto mind, so perhaps thats a lot better?
Cracking little car though - Im actively looking for one now! 340bhp in a little RWD hatchback is just brilliant.

I had similar figures on a spirited test drive to you, manual aswell. 200 mile. Motorway journey home from the dealer showed 38 mpg. Will have to give it a while to get a decent average. If you don't know of the online dealer I'm talking about send me a pm, he's very good. No haggling, decent price, all sorted online. Local dealer wouldn't even match his price.

i was surprised to find these can be had with discount for less than a golf R or just about any circa 300bhp+ hatch
no brainier really
I think it's a bargain was about 27k after discount and deposit contribution. I can't think of much that can be had around the same price that I would want no brainier really

It's definitely struggling in this weather, but good so I take it easy and run it in.
It does have rev matching on down shift, makes it sound like I can drive.
Getting a local place as the mid pipe is only basic. Bcs are around 350 I think, local place 160
I have a full BCS system on my 2012 Golf R, it is a work of art. It does have rev matching on down shift, makes it sound like I can drive.

Lovely 140 BTW, enjoy!

My local dealer beat “his” price by over £200. “He” wasn’t happy at all! :haha: ...but he will definitely give you very close to the best price if you don’t like haggling. FlabbyMidgets said:

Plus you got the HK audio which in my opinion is an absolute must for BMW's.
Looks really really nice.
I really like the Shadow edition although i think the lower intakes and mirrors should be dark too but i suppose that could easily be sorted if needed.
What a car at 21!
What did i have at 21? Erm...it would have been someting like an early-mid 90's Citroen ZX TD! (that would have been 2005ish)
Still, i mainly praticed bangernomics and still do^
^ read as - should have bloody worked harder in school/college!

That’s a lovely car OP wish you all the luck with it! I was never really a fan of the estoril blue on the 1 series but on the shadow edition with the tinted lights etc looks fantastic, brings out the colour!
A friend of mine who works for BMW had a M240i and that sounded very muted when new but after he put a few miles on it, it became slightly louder with a lot more pops n whatever’s in sport mode! He now has a M140i shadow in sunset orange but I prefer the blue.
