Right, where do I start.

I have owned the car for 4 and a half years now, its been through a couple of different looks. I went down the silly 'scene' route with stupid camber and dished wheels, budget AP coilovers as low as they could go.

In the last year I see sense and decided to make use of the car for what it was designed for. I set about getting some new coilovers, I opted for BC Racing as I heard nothing but good things about these. I was then on the look out for a set of lightweight wheels, a set of Team Dynamic 1.2's were my choice. I then soon changed to a set of OZ Ultralegerra's. A few other handling upgrades such as front and rear anti roll bars were fitted. Every single bush was replaced under the car, a mixture of Powerflex and OEM were used as i didn't want the ride to be too hard on on the road.

The next thing was some lightweight seats, at the time I had a set of Corsa VXR Recaro's re-trimmed which looked lovely but weighed a lot. After sitting in a pair of Recaro Pole Positions, these had to be the seats. A week later I had set in the car with some OMP Harnesses to match my OMP steering wheel.

I had the car weighed, without me and a full tank of fuel it came in at 930kg.

Modifications so far:

4-2-1 Stainless Manifolds into a decat Janspeed system.
BMC cold air intake
BC Coilovers
Whiteline RARB
H&R FARB
Powerflex bushes
Recaro Pole Positions
OMP 4 point harnesses
OMP steering wheel
OZ Ultralegerra
G60 Brake upgrade
Braided Brake Lines
Wheel stud conversion.

Future plans are to get a bit more power out of the 1.6 with a port and polished head, cams and a new inlet manifold.

A CAE shifter is also on the list.

This is one long journey in short basically lol. I'll leave a few picture below of what it used to look like and how it looks now.

That's a great looking little Lupo and I'm glad to see it's now not scraping the desk. If it was a 1.0 it may get away with it but the GTi deserves more so I'm liking the more performance orientated mods now. smile

I used to have a Lupo Sport back in 2010. That was low on a set of KW coilovers. Raceland manifold, induction kit and exhaust meant it ran a respectable 117bhp on a rolling road. Was a good laugh I must admit and a car that received it's share of compliments. People just like Lupos it seems.

Good work OP. smile

Nice ride!

Although not a fan of modified cars, I cannot berate you now there's a steady supply of these being imported from Japan! :-)

I cannot see the Up! GTI having as big a following sixteen years from now. Who knows!

Former owner of a black GTI.

Nice! I'm about to start a new job and I'm going to see how much of a chew the train is and if that doesn't work out, I've already been scouting eBay etc for a Lupo GTI to run halfway there and get the tram the rest of the way to work. Had a couple of 6N2 Polo GTIs which I really liked apart from the cheese gearbox so would love a Lupo...

Seen this on CL. Love it!

But then MrsSE and I are currently building a Lupo, so I'm biased... smile

Itms it worth soending £000s when you could probably get a 1.8T conversion quite cheap? Could be a real rocket then.

Thanks for all the nice comments👍🏼

The reason for not doing a 1.8t conversion is purely to do with weight and struggling to put the power down.

For something like this, I'd want an N/A 1.8 20V on throttle bodies. That would really suit!

Yeah maybe one day i will run this on throttle bodies, don’t want to run a standalone ECU though.

Got to say... I prefer the first look smile but that's because at the ripe old age of 33 I'm still not a grown up.

Always had a soft spot for this cars; just too small for me now!

Real nice. I've always wanted one of these!
Like the way you've brought to back from 'scene' to road racer.

Pretty sure this popped up on Track Addict's Instagram page over the weekend?

lovely, i'd just try and tidy up the back seat area to give it that gt3rs look!
how much weight did changing the seats save?
when I had my lupo gti I found the stock suspension way too soft, went through a few different brands and was unimpressed until I found the H&R's
