Following on from my what car for 3k post in the car buying forum, I have just picked up this.



It's a phase 1 V6 with 5 speed box and 112k miles. Tan leather interior and 17" teledials. Managed to pick it up for under my budget of 3k, however it does need a bit of tidying up.

From driving it home and having a good look around i since it needs the following:
replace wing mirror
replace or repair air vent
new door seals
intake pipes need re chromed
new coolant tank and tidy up of engine bay
new wheel badges and bonnet badge.
Fluid change and a good clean, especially inside the car

I will use this thread to update as I go along, it's a good motivator to keep me on top of the little jobs.

Thanks. I had wind noise coming in through the window at 70mph + , I'm guessing they will need replaced but I haven't actually looked properly yet.

Ah the reason I ask is wind coming in is window alignment, not door seals. It's a fun job (at least it's free) but also very common. Lots of info on the web. I'd also get some decent locking nuts for those wheels and get the underside sealed.

That's a cracking colour combo, certainly bought well at under £3k. Good ones are going up. I'm a fan of the 5 speed, the 6's are great but I like the longer ratios. Your car looks spoilerless, again another plus.

OK thanks, that's good at least I know where to start. A quick Google search brings up a how to guide on alfaworkshop.com so that's something to try when I get a chance.

Great car, every drive just brings on the smiles, the steering is so light yet feeds back loads & then the Busso! Re the chrome inlets - new ones are very expensive, especially if you need all six, try taking off and scrub with aluminium foil dipped in Coca Cola, the results are amazing (aluminium is softer than chrome so will not scratch then chemistry does the rest).

The steering really surprised me, car feels very light and nimble considering it has a v6 in the front. I had a look today for inlets and noticed an alfa specialist selling 6 refurbed ones for £400! And you have to give them your old ones, no chance. I am going to take them off and try a local re chroming place, although I have yet to get a price for this.

I'd suggest getting yours over to AutoLusso to get it inspected. Mine's in there now (see other post). No pressure selling and they'll do a health check to show you what needs doing and in what order.

Unfortunately autolusso is nearly 400 miles away! I am looking at getting it into an alfa specialist after xmas though. I have just sorned the car, I am about to go away to work until February so everything is on hold, going to gather a few cosmetic bits and pieces to replace when I am home.

It's a good guide but I'd suggest searching the Alfa forums for tips by people doing the work, may save you a few hours and stress. Think someone mentioned removing a window seal and adjusting the window in the up position? Will need a remap once fitted, not sure where you'd get a Fezza TB, but you can stay standard TB.

I wouldn't touch them. If you're anywhere near Bristol I can recommend someone to you. You won't find a better person to look after it.

I'm on the West coast of Scotland. Pretty limited in terms of specialists but I have been recommended a garage. If anyone has any experience of alfas in my area would be good to hear though

Did you have a poor experience with AutoLusso?

Gave the car a good clean today, ordered some new mats as the originals were well past there best. Threw away a few years worth of sweet wrappers and found a pound coin, result.

Got an annoying warning light telling me that the bonnet isn't closed properly when it is, so going to have a look at that tomorrow, can hopefully get at the sensor and see if it can be replaced.

Also,this is what I am working with in the engine bay, it isn't pretty! But having had a look today it is all cosmetic, I can't see any leaks etc so that's a bonus.
The cover and the inlet pipes will be getting done as soon as I can.

Give that bonnet mechanism a good check and grease. They have been known to not do their job at speed.
