Mercedes 230 estate 1996...Query
Discussion
My better half has got her eye on a nice tidy example of the above car. It has a large mileage 100,000 or there abouts and has been fully serviced by Mercedes. Fully loaded with leather seats and airconditioning etc and presented to us for £8,999 or what ever I can get off for cash.
It's not a main dealer selling it so I assume it was traded in for a new car.#
What does the price look like to you? Running costs on this car, how high?
What do you reckon/

Word of warning, remember that this is a 30K car so will have 30K running costs. My experiences of big motors on the cheap has not been very good
Volvo 960 CD estate with every extra 1992 (£30K new)bought 1999 with 110k miles at £7K, needed new gearbox and cooling system at 127K miles cost over £2500 !!! eventually traded in against Saab 9-5 Estate for £2.5K in April 2001
Audi A8 3.7 1996 (£50K new) bought Oct 2000 with 73k miles at £16K, needed £2,500 of servicing costs + £350 of tyres up to 94k miles (still then had a number of electrical gremlins probably need new ECU to resolve all), very difficult to sell, eventually traded for £8,800 against a Land Rover Defender in May 2002
But my wife had a better experience
Porsche 944 2.7 Auto 1989 bought with 90k (at £7K) on the clock, used for 2 years up to 110k miles, with no horror bills, traded in for £7,500 against a Griffith 500!!!
Just be careful or have some savings put away for that big bill.
