Seeing as this forum is inhabited by people who seem to be almost as oppinionated as me, what would you go for?
Requirements:
Overtaking potential
Reliability
Reasonable running costs
must have 4 seats (even if tiny)
Reasonable handling
Less than 10yrs old
Less than 100k on the clock
No French cars or Fiats (apologies, it's just the way I was brought up)
Oh yeah, budget of £4,500.

Why no French cars?
Peugeot 306gti-6/rallye could fit your description pretty well. Just make sure the timing belt/idler pullye/water pump have been changed.
Also i recon the nissan 200sx turbo is a lot of car for the money and faily subtle too.
