I popped into Audi last week for a bit of warrenty work on my RS6 and got chatting to one of the sales staff. I've been umming and arghhing over a change, as I've got a change of job and area, which means my mileage is going to increase and got offered a fantastic px deal on it.

So after a bit of a chat with SHMBO, I done a deal on this little oddball.

5 cylinder, 2.5 turbo with 310ps, 4wd, decent turn of pace and fantastic off beat warble from the exhaust.

Very different to the V10, but still fun.

Out of curiosity, why the Q3 over a regular RS3 or S4? I wouldnt be able to put myself into an SUV

EVO Magazine rate these cars really highly, and they are very open about the fact they didn't want to like it given it's a fast soft-roader thing.

I'm looking forward to reading more about how you get on.

These tune up very well too I believe, spotted a stage 2 kit which gives 430bhp.

With the right exhaust they can sound proper silly too, watch it until the end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiXPGmSZZKo&sp...

Gorgeous - I'd definitely look twice, and for all the right reasons.

Safe driving.

ETA: nice bokeh.

Short answer; they didn't have any in stock.

Longer answer is that my OH was at the point of not driving the RS6 at all, due to it being too big and too fast. So we'd talked about getting a cooking model Q3 to replace her aging BMW X3.

With this on offer and the cracking deal they offered, it seemed like a bit of a no brainer to get a car that we would both be okay driving, with it probably ending up as hers.

I'm hoping to sell hers at some point and maybe keep an eye out for any lease deals that come up, I kicked myself that I missed out on the Golf R estate lease deals as that would have been the perfect compliment to something like this.

Plus, I'm impulsive and this was there and ready to go biggrin

I was the same, the Q3 is mostly what I don't like about "modern" cars, in a high seating position and feeling very isolated from the driving experience. I was wanting to not like them, and didn't in the 2.0 TDI Q3 loan car that I had whilst the warrenty work was going on on the RS6, but this thing is very different.

This thing feels very much like a more upto date version on my old Subaru Forester STI, in that it's got loads and loads of grip, loves being rev'd and feels very planted. I imagine that it''s very quick around B roads due to the size and pace.

Thanks, the looks are growing on me. I think the aluminium accents help set off the overall look of the car well, and just give it a bit more ...... presence?

I can't take credit for the photo's, they were the dealerships ones. I've only got some rubbish camera phone ones so far.

I drive one of these from time to time. Really nice engine and outstanding brakes. Not a fan of the gearbox (slow manual upshifts, jerks at low speed), driving position and satnav (which can fortunately be folded away tongue out) but it is a nice package overall.
If I had to buy new I'd take a lightly specced Macan instead any day of the week but I can see how this makes more sense as a used buy with low milage. Enjoy!

I certainly don't have the bags of cash to do it, there was *some* thought behind it, and I'll probably be saving £250 plus per month on fuel costs, so does make some sense, or my man maths might have been taking over again. biggrin

Thanks, I took it for a good blat on the way home and found it very, very quick in dynamic mode. I thought the gearbox it's actually really responsive. It is a bit slow in comfort mode, but feels razor sharp in dynamic and the pops and bangs on over-run, when downshifting are a little addictive.

The 5 cylinder engine really is a peach, I'd say that it has bags more character than the V10 in my old RS6.

Oh i know, just kidding, compared to the RS6, this is a positively sensible and economic way to get around.

Enjoy it!

Great choice.

Know someone whos had one of these for years and its still going strong. He's always umming and ahhing about replacing it but now it's all bought and paid for can't see the point.

Use a fair bit of fuel but what a transformation the RS is compared with the normal Q3, which is truly awful.

one of audi's best engines, get the marketing restrictions removed from it

with the amount of sleeping police men and pot holes about in the SE i am beginning to think these make more sense than the normal RS3
