Hi All,

I've been a long time lurker here and this is the first time I've properly posted - so if I have this in the wrong topic folder thing let me know and I'll move it over!

Little bit of background; After doing a few track days between my dad, brother and I we decided we wanted a dedicated (and cheap) track toy instead of risking our own cars and insurance. So we bought a 1994 Nissan 200sx (S13) that had been put together for Group N spec racing for an absolute steal.

We've had it on track a couple of times now and there's a few changes to be made to make the car better. We are fairly new to this and after scouring t'internet we realised we need some advice on what to look for.

Namely, we want to swap the windows out for perspex ones (with sliders)
Upgrade the brakes to something more substantial than OEM ones.
Get a front splitter and a wing on the back to make it more stable at speed.

I've seen perspex window kits for the S13 on Driftworks and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with the DW's kits or if they had any other recommendations?

Brakes-wise, we're happy to pay for decent ones but we're not sure how big we can go with 17" wheels and if anyone had any recommended brakes to get? Ideally we'd go 2nd hand as it's always much better value but there's not much we could find on Ebay - are there other good places to hunt for that kind of kit?

With regards to Aero; we know we'll probably have to make our own front splitter (a good friend of ours has on his R32). I've seen a tonne of Big Gay Wings about but I'm sceptical of their ability to actually do much. I can't find anything that's of the adjustable nature and looks like it's actually made to create any kind of downforce for less than £2k - is there anyone you guys could recommend to speak to around the South?

Thanks in advance for any help ! I've added some pictures of the car to give some context too !

I know that the Skyline R33 GTST brakes are a swap for the stock 200 ones , a popular upgrade and you can get DBA discs and a more aggressive pad then

Last thing I'd ever do on a track car is plexi front windows, just horrible, hot & airless, bad to seal on coupes, pop out at high speed, just a nightmare.

Lots of weight to be saved elsewhere.

Ref brakes pal of mine ran a v brisk 200 sx racer, did dyno at over 500 gee gees & he swore by the k sport big brake set up, I thought it was just cheap crap & he should go AP etc but he had no probs.

Thanks all for the advice so far ! That plastics place looks really decent

Iguana - I'd heard the K Sport ones are meant to be great too ! Will have to check them out. Ref the windows, ours are already fixed as the mechanism has been taken out - we were hoping to get the Plexi windows so we can have the vents in them to get some air in !
Interesting about them popping out at speed though

K sports are decent but lead times can be 12-14 weeks at least

Oh wow that's not ideal !

We're hoping to get them changed before summer.

Definitely considering going down the route of buying another car's brakes from a breaker a la Liner33's suggestion

Jez at h Dev has a decent bgw that came off his ex time attack 600bhp s13, I spoke to him yesterday & he's obviously the man to chat to ref brakes & power etc & front splitters as his s13 had one, I think your car was set up there when it was a racer? I'm sure I remember it there when passing once, restricted on power etc due to regs?

I think the easiest way of upgrading the brakes are just S14 calipers up front, any more than that and you'd be looking at new hubs etc as the S14 and Skyline have 5 stud hubs, still not a massive job and actually quite common to do the 5 stud conversion all round (makes it easier to find wheels too). The Skyline brakes are a substantial step up from the standard S13 setup, a lot of people track their S14s with them. Then of course there's aftermarket options, ksport being the most widely used/recommended on these cars.

Not sold on these massive wings to be honest, surely they cause more drag than anything positive? Haven't seen any direct comparisons though so can't actually say for sure.

What's the engine spec out of interest? Get along to sxoc.com if you haven't already, tech section on that site has really helped me with my S14 rebuild!

I ran Skyline calipers with modified 330mm Corvette discs - no hub swap required. I could just about squeeze them under 17" Compomotives , which were especially good for clearance.

is it still on 4 stud hubs? if not then swap to 5 stud and I believe you can then get m3 discs to fit with the s14 calipers.

A set of ferodo ds2500 pads and you'll have a great budget setup.

As for plexi windows. I don't really see the point? It will make little to no difference to how the car feels and will just cost you money to fit. Your efforts and funds are best focused elsewhere.

I have mixed opinions of aero too. Done wrong and you'll upset the handling. You can also create a lot of unnecessary drag too.
