Afternoon all!

After a month and 1600 miles (and a quick wash) I thought I'd post up some pictures and details of my new car, a VW Golf GTI Mk7.

Ordered in December after I'd had enough of my Mondeo ST TDCi being on the brink of falling apart and spurred on by my wife driving a brand new Polo GTI I booked a day off work and visited most of the dealers in the local area.

Journey started at Ford, tested a Fiesta ST (awesome little cars, wife looked at one before she got the Polo, but a little too small for me), and sat in a Focus ST before deciding it was a no (couldn't get comfortable in the seats).

Stopped next at BMW and sat in a M235 but found it really small inside, especially in the footwell (size 13 feet here!) so was a no-go, then took out a 320i - found it ok, really comfy, but was too much money for the spec I wanted (and I would have had the 328 instead).

Bypassed Renault, Citroen and Peugeot.

Stopped at Toyota to look at a GT86 - tested one ages ago and loved it, but it's a bit small for a daily for me.

Stopped at Skoda - I've had three previously but the latest Octavia vRS is just too much money per month compared to other things.

Tempted by a Cupra ST at SEAT but the interior is awful! Black scratchy plastic and last-gen VAG switchgear and electronics.

Took an S3 out and loved it but they're really small in back and for the spec I'd want it was more than I wanted to pay.

Bypassed Vauxhall.

Stopped at VW and spent maybe 3 hours there looking at various things. Took a CC out but disappointed in the lack of a decent petrol and the last-gen electronics. Took out a Golf GTI and loved it. I loved it so much that I spec'd one up (may have gone slightly OTT...) and we agreed on the figures, signed on the bottom line and then on the 4th of March (after some shipping delays) by new car arrived!

It is Night Blue which seems fairly uncommon in the sea of black and white ones that are about. Full spec over standard is as follows:

DSG gear box
Performance Pack
Tech pack (larger screen and Dynaudio speakers)
Parking pack (rear camera and Park Assist)
Panoramic sunroof
Dynamic Chassis Control
Climate windscreen

And I love it - for a daily driver that gets me up and down the M6 every day but has enough go to make me want to take the long way home, combined with a decent boot, 5 seats, and all the toys I'd want for my regular trips to South Wales, it's all I need.

It's also quite a rare sight on the roads compared with rep-spec GTDss and poverty-spec R's, I hardly see any other GTI's!

No plans for it other than pay the finance payment and drive it smile

Very nice, agree about the colour and lack of GTi's, you just don't see them! I can't get on board with the seats though, I know there's a nostalgia thing going on but for me they just look awful these days.

Surprised about the Octavia VRS though, surely a similar spec one was cheaper than a Golf, bigger boot as well...... I am biased though smile

Same spec/miles/deposit, Leon Cupra, Golf GTI and Octavia vRS - the vRS was the most expensive per month, all down to the much lower future value. Still good cars and if I needed the extra room I'd gladly have one.
