My XR2i is a great wee car. The handling is brilliant as standard, but with mine having been set-up for circuit/gravel racing it's even more sorted. Being lightened considerably also helps! I love the lack of power steering, and the 13" wheels make it accelerate like sh1t off a shovel. I've also found that it's much easier to set-up the suspension than on a 205 GTi, while being every bit as quick or quicker round the track.
I was wondering about other peoples opinions on this model and/or how they think it compares to the original XR2 or the 205

I had three MK2 XR2's a lot of years ago and a track prepped 2i 16V slightly more recently. If I remember rightly (rose tinted spectacles and everything), once the suspension was sorted on the 2i it out performed the old XR2's all day long...I think the old XR2's were more fun standard though.
But then I also remember using an angle grinder to modify the springs on my first Fiesta (just until I could afford springs) so maybe I'm not the person to ask...
