I picked up an E36 328i saloon last month for £350 (about £500 by the time I'd fitted a new alternator and battery)...

Its a manual 328.
I had been looking for a 328 for ages and found it hard to find an honest, rust free example for under 1k. I then i saw this at the side of the road with a poster in the window for £800. Paint is tatty in areas, there is zero service history, and it has a nikasil lump....bit of a risk. Offered £500 and got it for £550 with 4 months tax and mot! Come MOT time a ball joint was failing, so i had them replaced, some powerflex wishbone bushes fitted and the coolant overhauled, it flew through its MOT....with an overall cost of £130 incl the cost of the MOT!
I have bought some m3 front hubs and brakes to fit at somepoint, hence the 17" wheels...would have rather stayed on 16's but they wont fit over the brakes! Fitted the m3 bumper today.
Its just a bit of practical fun really...especially considering have have some top spec dunlop sport maxxs on the front and some £40 events on the back

So yeh dont want to barry it up, more make it OEM+ without it turning into a complete money pit.
I have a short ratio LSD from a 320 which i need to find a way to fit using the more manly 328 drive shafts, and need to plumb in an m50 inlet manifold.
It does use some oil, so being a nikasil lump its a matter of not if, but when is it going to die. If the engine did die, then i will probaly try and find a solid replacement, or i am veryvery tempted to do a 1jzgte conversion, as the engines can be mated with the 328 gearbox/flywheel/clutch with an adaptor plate.
