BMW E28 525e (M5 Replica)
Discussion
Hi all,
First Forum post but been following Pistonheads for years and even bought this car through the classifieds on here in April 2012.
It’s a 1987 BMW E28 525e, made into an M5 replica.
I use it as my daily driver, and it has had the following mechanical mods besides what’s obvious from the photos:
• 325i Corey Motorsport Head conversion, ECU and chip
• 520i manual gearbox (nice long gear ratios for economy)
• Fritz M5 replica exhaust system to headers
• Bilstein lowered springs and shocks
• 186bhp and 195lb/ft, now revs to over 6000rpm
Had a full 6 page feature in March 2012 BMW Car Magazine, and is one of the BMW Car Club Magazine’s Running Report fleet.
The car was nailed together when the big German manufacturers were handing the rest of the world their asses when it came to build quality (before standards and costs dropped in the nineties). It feels indestructible and should clip 200k miles early next year.
Already have a Porsche 928 in my sights to replace it next spring (when the missus says I can change!) but will struggle to let this one go!
