mk1 vauxhall nova trackday build (W.I.P)

got this car back in late 2008, only rust was on 1 rear arch the rest was completely solid, so i payed the nice old folk £450 quid for it (unreal price whe you look at what thee rot boxes seem to fetch now days) and went on my merry way, blew out the cobwebs down the m1 spedo said 90 my brother following me assured me i never went above 75 lol

the same day i bought it i went to a meet with some guys from fiatforum at reddot and thourght why not put it on the rolling road and see just how many horses this beast is packing , even got to see right under the car noone could beleive how solid it was especially for the money i handed over for it, one guy offered me 1k for it there and then (should have taken it lol), here is the print out anyways

drove it around for a few months, never really got use to having a manual choke tbh but the 4 speed gearbox was a good laught the gears seemed to go on forever and ever

it all came to a end when i lost my job and couldnt afford to run a car on the minimal wages i was fetching frown so i beged my mother to leave it at hers as i really didnt want to part with it as i knew it would be hard to find one in such good condition again for that kind of money, plan was to only leave it there for a month max!!!!!

so a year and a half passed and i had saved up a nice wod of cash doing some security work at a abanndoned pub 6 months i was taking hope 450 a week for doing fook all i wasnt moaning lol

...bought these....
coilovers (spax rsx)
256mm brakes (new pads discs and fluid)
x4 15" alloys & some toyo proxes
looked like this with all the above fitted

then off it went for its mot, she passed *yippie* i was so chuffed it finaly road legal after nearly 2 years!!!

so chuffed infact later that day i done this

and its in lol

sits really low with the engine in (my dad in the shot lol)

right at this time my mother came back from greece and wasnt to pleased with me stripping apart my car and genrally making a right mess of her house and drive doing it lol, and with all the money i had saved up going very very quickly, mainly in the pub with the lads amazing the thirst you get spending 6 months away from all your mates, and the vet bills i had to pay afetr some dheads dog attacked mine

so it had to go off (biggest mistake ever) to be finished so i could start looking for another job frown

while the car was away being finished off i bought this
Mk1 mazda mx5 1.8

one of the most fun cars i have ever driven (looking at getting another one and turbocharging it when this whole nova phase is finished with lol)

it became clear this guy (tom eccles for anyone that wants to know/avoid) when he stopped answering my calls and ignoring my texts and emails, so i suprise visited his lock up and found this

at this point in time i had no where to store the nova so i had to move house to somewhere with a garage so i could get my car back!! this took a fair few months to sort out as you would expect

here she is back where it belongs

look at the state the guy left it in (this interior was mint when he took it, as you can see in the first load of photos of it)

i would advoid this guy at all costs he is not to be trusted

so that is my story up to now, hope you injoyed the read and i will keep this updated as and when there are some big updates, cheers for reading let me know what you think of it so far

the spec im thinking of right now for the engien is

2ltr 16v (rebuilt & balanced)
288* cams
heatwrapped manifold
2" bore exhaust
custom induction kit (corsa air box, cotton panel filter & silicone inlet hose)
nitrous oxide ( between a 25-and-50 hp shot nothing major)
................

might end up on bike carbs in the end, if i can find some for the right price and a good place to have them set up correctly

You getting the bulkhead welded? As its known the chasis can get twisted in nova's and corsa's running big power

yes mate ive already bought strenghting plates (some are fitted already) and also having the engine bay stich welded, i attempted it myself but my welding is piss poor so im just going to get someone that knows what there doing do it lol

here are some of the bits ive bought for the car so far

some engine bits

nitrous oxide wink

(single point wet kit with a purge valve)
excuse my feet lol

bucket seats

this little lot should sort the cooling

brakes

coilovers (pulling these apart sorting the surface rust and painting them up)

pollybushes

bought my own engine crane, as i borrowed one the last time and it was a pain in the arse

engine stand

also had to buy loads of spanners, rachets, sockets etc etc as i use to borrow my brothers tools but thats not going to happen anymore as ive moved from london to derby :/
not sure if im just going to renew all the gaskets on the engine i have right now and slap it in and while the car is up and running working out bugs & faults, buy a 2nd engine and rebuild/tune that one??? one to think over.

What happened to the car when it was in storage? Did the bloke strip and sell parts or just use it as a skip?

he was supose to be finishing off the conversion and doing a few other little bits, but thats how it looked after a year and a half, he had done fook all, dont think he sold anything, but then again he was ment to drop my engine off the other week and never showed up, wasnt till i sent a bill for 1200 quid for the engine and some other bits that he responded and said i would have it this weekend

Is there a "Using the Missus to sell the Engine Crane" topic as yet? If so please create one.

Any how good work with the little car; nice to see one being preserved. Funny how they've all gone - but now are nostalgic objects when once derided. Should go well with little weight, and they're supposed to be a sharper drive than the Corsa that followed. Makes me hanker after another eighties car now. Except I'm probably going to buy one tomorrow!

aiming for it to be really really light

perspex windows (front sliders)
fiberglass bonnet, front wings & tailgate (pins, raisers & straps)
x2 bucket seats
fully striped out (even thinking of removing the dash completely)
lightweight battery
removing the bumper irons (holding on with pins & drilling)

its not going to be a looker but hopefully it will go, stop & handle like a dream smile

preping inner arches

the neighbours will be happy with me today, over 2 hours of angle grinding off old paint, surface rust and rubbery underseal lol

the tools used

think i need a new wire brush :/

no nasty repairs/bodges were uncovered so im a happy bunny, the tiny bits of surface rust were wire wheeled off and covered in rust treatment, left it in etch primer for now, will give it a blast with some satin black paint later, then its being seam sealed and having that rubbery underseal stuff on it and a coat of white paint on top of that hopefully that will be enough to keep out any future rust

not to bad for a sunday.
