Looks like a tidy example.

Have missed seeing this shape on the roads!

Very nice! I have a manual estate, currently off the road. I also had an S6 saloon as a daily runner for a couple of years. Loved it.

Great cars.

Tuning? - There's plenty out there, even some very big power ones. However, as they have become very rare and a bit older, some of the companies who know these cars well... Have moved on to newer models.

However, I'm sure it can still be done. I'm hoping to maybe have a go at finding people & parts to do mine sometime within the next year. It's been years since I checked, but ECU stuff will take them to 260-280, hybrid turbo and better intercooler toward 300, and exponentially increase the spend for more power after that. I believe MRC even took a couple of S2s up toward the 600bhp mark. I'm afraid I have no idea what is best, or the costs involved.

I hope yours goes well. Keep it safe, there's very few of these left now!

Very rare and somewhat desirable. Never been in one and presume that I never will though, just because they are so uncommon. Was very keen on one back in the day, just because of the power mixed with the very practical and solid body. Less keen now, since 230bhp is no longer anything to write home about and probably has some old-school lag. But I would be interested to hear what it is like to drive.

It feels great to drive, i've got a diesel bmw 320 that feels as quick but lacks any character.

Your right about the turbo lag too, there is a bit.

Makes a great sound and even has 7 seats

Very easy to tune smile

I have this engine in my quattro and its running at about 440bhp.

500 bhp plus is common.

Go to S2 Forum and have a look, loads of info on tuning. You can "homefry" the ecu as a first step, but the original Bosch Motronic Ecu can be fully custom mapped by the likes of MRC.

I really like that colour. Don't want to sound like a girl, the car is very cool indeed too.

homefry? what do you mean?

The sills are being painted black today as its faded over the years

Homefry.... send you ECU to a chappy on S2 Forum, he works a bit of magic and voila, around 280 bhp (a similar increase in torque), and better MPG. Utterly 100% reliable, lots of S2's and similar running them. Costs a couple of hundred quid.

For slightly better handling I believe you can fit RS2 anti roll bars..

For further performance (over the homefry) MRC seems to be the one to choose. Those engines are bullet proof. Would suggest the brakes might need beefing up a little if the re-map is chosen, as they were never the cars strongest point..

But first stop the S2 Forum...

I had an S2 with the same drivetrain in a less sober colour:

The final, direct ignition 20v version of that I5 motor is fantastic. If you're feeling particularly brave, though, the 4.2 V8 will fit, at least it was sold in LHD form as the S6 Plus...

Utterly fantastic car, like hen's teeth now. I've had the pleasure of being driven in one, father had a dark blue manual S6 Avant for a couple of years, drove it hard until the Turbo eventually threw its hand in. I remember that intoxicating 2.2 5 cylinder thrum so very well. Alfa sounds a bit like it, but not as raw.

Surprised to the kind of money S2 Avant ad RS2s command now, without question future classics.
