RE: PetrolTed's Alfa Romeo 164 Twin Spark Lusso

I hope yours was reliable. One of my mates has a project going (for years already though ) with an Alfa V6 in an Lotus Esprit rolling chassis.
Trial testing included a 3.0, a 2.0 turbo, and a dodgy 3.0 kompressor conversion, which meant that he bought three different 164s Of course, he used them as his everyday-transports, and I had to tow him to his workshop several times ah well, the cars were not expensive to buy. The conclusion of the the trial testing was the 3.0 V6, btw. The new cylinder heads cost more than a proper Rover V8 engine (each - I hasten to add).
The 166 V6 looks interesting for these circumstances though: transversal mounted engine and 6 sp. box - good for mid-engine applications .

A mate used to have one of the rare 164 Q4 with permanent 4X4 and the 24V V6 good for 230bhp (the Q4 was never imported in the UK btw.
One of the most charismatic "largeish" saloons I ever drove. All the guts and the aural delights of the Alfa V6 without the nasty torque steer of the FWD versions
