Well, the 104 made it to PugFest and back again at the weekend past there. 1000 mile round trip, only one breakdown when it refused to restart when hot (presume punishment for me stalling it!). Averaged about 40mpg and quite comfortable at motorway speeds with replaced door seals. Great to meet up with some other group owners, Talbot Samba’s 40th birthday.

Loved my 104. Wish I still had one. Very roomy and wonderful suspension soaked up everything in the way only old French cars do.

The synchromesh was completely stripped so gear changes were interesting but I didn't care.

I hand painted it with Woolworths gloss paint, it looked quite smart!

Shame they are so rare.

Haha, my gearbox was the same and had to double clutch to get a ‘clean’ shift.
Must have imprinted on my memory as I still do it 30 years later.

2 and a half years in to ownership now. A bit late taxing it this year having been busy with lots of other things but that’s it back on the road for the summer. Old cars definitely benefit from regular use: first run out it spent most of the time stuttering and not running very cleanly.

Now much better with a run up to Inverness for the day and a chance to see some other cars at Cars and Coffee. Spotted a very lovely BX TZD there too

My dad had one of these, I enjoy seeing the updates. He loved that little car and drove it very enthusiastically!

Time for a brief update, all too aware I haven't posted anything about it for a while. The wee 104 is now on 205000kms and I took it for its first run for 2024. Since last post I found a replacement Solex carb (still with autochoke). It seems to be running better on that now, smoother power delivery. But it's still not keen on starting when warm. Fine when cold, fine when hot, spark seems weak. So I'm suspecting something on the ignition side so will investigate that next. It might also be developing a grumbly front wheel bearing.

Good to see it's still being looked after. Where was the picture taken? It looks lovey.

In the three years since my last comment in this thread, I haven't seen another in the wild. It's v gratifying that you and it are still going strong;)

Cars do like being used. Home from a 4 day weekend and over 1000 miles added to the mileage. A charity car run for a friend and a visit to other friends in Wales. One door catch is stuck, the fuel gauge is less accurate than normal, a front bearing is slightly grumbly but she's been starting perfectly and running nearly perfectly. Needs a good clean now but I'm also tempted to put her to more regular use for the summer months now.

Always nice to see more of this. I agree with cars being used, my clio is definitely happier with regular use.

I did think when heading up the M6 if I am in a crash there's not exactly a surplus of others to replace this. But then again cars do need used and there's little point them sitting hidden away for years and years in garages.
