Nice! I think those are still made close to where I live.

Fiat twin cam is a nice classic engine. I'd keep it - Furys (Furies?) are about handling and corner speed, so perhaps not necessary to swap?

Cheap and easy swap - Zetec is closest to an 'easy' swap as the exhaust is the same side as that Fiat. Duratec is on the other side. I guess there could be questions on the engine dimensions. Half of me says that the Zetec is DOHC engine and so's the Fiat, so shouldn't be a massive difference, but I do recall the Fiat being particularly compact.

Anyway - have fun - looks very nice!

How about a left field choice.... a BMW K1600 engine. 1600cc, 160hp straight six with a sequential 6 speed box already fitted. It's shaft drive too so alleviates some drivetrain headaches....
Interesting idea, but I don't think. It would fit between the chassis . As it's designed to be transversely mounted and the gearbox housing is part of the block. So you couldn't mount it longitudinally

I clicked in here because I love an impulse buy and this has tickled my fancy. I accidentally on purpose bought a Kei van with a 545cc engine in it and it likely wants a more practical engine in it eventually. But the engine is under the load bed, so the new engine needs to be flat..... Fires up eBay.....

Goldwing is 1,800cc and a shaft drive...

Holy moly it's freaking riot to drive. .it's definitely not that quick but it's great fun. Finally got the diff back and put it in the car tonight.

I've been stuck at work as we're exhibiting at Southampton boat show. And I'm designated driver and Sherpa for the Mrs and daughter at Disney Paris the next 3days. Supper chuffed I got to drive it properly tonight. Be screwing in France if I still haddent

shorter FD and LSD.

So major issue I need to fix asap is head rests or high back seats. As at the moment as a minimum I'll have severe whiplash. Or worse I'll cave the back of my skull in on the roll bar. If I got rear ended.

terrible photo but you can see the risk with the roll bar.

It's not an easy car to get seats for so I'm tempted to have some pads made for the roll bar? What do you guys think ?

It definitely needs an alignment. And I'm really tempted to bolt the doors shut as the rattle like nobody's business even with the strikers adjusted in tighter.

I'll try and sort out an onboard when I'm back from France.

I'd get some decent pads made up and attached to the bar. If you are in the south West I can recommend a place.

What are the brakes like btw?

Try some duct tape on the bottom and side of the doors. You won't really see it and I managed to stop my bonnet rattling this way.

Alright I'm sat in the bar waiting on the SWMBO and nipper to meet me. Can't stop thinking about what Todo with the fury well excited to get stuck into this one.

So the list at the moment is.

Headrests/seats asap
Alignment!
Oil leaks
Speedo calibration
Headlights
Exhaust
Various rattles and loose pats.
Wheels
More power biggrin

I'm back at the show on Friday so il going to have a chat with a couple of sail/cover makers I'm friendly with as the existing seats are comfortable and keep me low in the car well below the screen. I'm leaning towards just having a some neat padded wraps for the bar's as my head is well Clear of them. Not hit my head once it only if I got a wack from behind it would be a problem.

Alignment, everything is fixed ? Except front toe Which suprises me, I'm tempted to get the adjustable kit from fisher as it makes no sense to me in to have it all fixed and it's not like nvh is ever going to come into it.

Oil leaks, I fixed one I think, it had a 100mm filter on the remote mocal, which was hitting the housing. So put a standard 75mm one on. It does still have a major leak on the oil manifold on the side of the block. I nipped a few bits up but not holding much hope out think I need to refresh the gaskets. Night be the oil pan to. Which gives me chance to see if it's baffled

Speedo Cali is proving difficult. VDO singlevue gauge doest seem to let me change the pulse settings after first install? Will do some research on it. As it must be possible

1 head light is down and there like candles. So need to work out what I can fit instead. As this will definitely get used at night.

Exhaust, it's way way to loud, won't be long before the local estate FB group is out to lunch me biglaugh need to see what's in the sill but plan in fitting the longest silencer that will fit. It will still be pretty loud.

Rattles will be on going I think biglaugh

Wheels I hate the Te37 reps. But can't decide on what Todo 13" revolutions are top of the list at the moment but might not clear the brakes they look quite beefy

Power is going to be a slow burn. I tempted to get a standalone ecu as I'll need that whatever I do. An will make a bit more power with that an a a cheapy itb kit or at least get the dcoe style itbs as probably need them too biglaugh

Can't wait to start digging through this one and getting it mint

Sorry chaps slow burner this one where I'm so busy. Desperate to get stuck in.

It's bloody tiny, it's fits under the west quay parking barriers biglaugh see if I get a fine

Had Abit of a measure up and shopping spree last night

I've ordered,
A high flow cat
Exhaust parts
700mm 6" silencer
Timing belt
Exhaust manifold gasket
Oil pan gasket
Oil filter housing gasket

It's way too loud, sounds like it's blowing. And the exhaust tip is inside the sill so its pretty smelly. Also with nipper I think it's prudent to fit a cat and will help with how loud it is, as I don't have much length to work with. 1.2 meters is the length inside the sill.

And VDO experts here? I need to get to this part of the menu? Is there a way to hard reset the gauge? Can't find anything online

Little update.

Been lots of fettling, working through rattles and niggles. Starting to get abit braver with it too. Had fun on the way home last night after seeing some friends.

I think I've sorted the oil leak, turns out the the oil filter housing was definitely leaking. The remote oil filled takeoff wasn't very tight and the seals are hard. As od ordered the gasket for the housing I fitted that as well.

I assumed the remote filter housing was due to the engine mount being close to it. However once I got it off I realised there's plenty of room for a filter. So a removed the remote system. As I can't see any reason to have it it's just a whole lot of connections with potential to leak.

I've got most the exhaust parts, now so hopefully get that done the weekend.

My phone says it's 88db at idle. But it doesn't seem to go any higher than that. It just flat lines. Which suggests it's even louder. Will see if I can get my hands on a dB meter or try another app.

I've Also removed the lancia emblem. Just seems Abit odd to have that on there and it's pretty weighty. It's made of metal biglaugh

I've always liked these. I remember Mark Whatshisname having one when he made that series for cable tv about building a race car I believe? A racing car is born maybe?

I saw this for sale and thought it was a bargain too. Had I not been a bit of a lump I would have had a punt but I figured I'd just get stuck. laugh

Defo needs to be high revving and N/A.

Great project, look forward to reading more. That 131 gearbox is bomb proof, I've installed the same in my 124.

It's surprisingly roomy yes the seats are pretty tight. But because it has a body there's space for you shoulders. I find I want to put my arm Through the side of a caterham

I've been reading up on the TC and apparently there good for 8k on stock pistons. I'm still not sure what I want to do. I think going stand alone and seeing what the TC makes is a good start. If I can get anywhere between 150 and 200 bhp I think it will be properly fast. It's not slow now. But I'm still getting my head around it. Its so loud I don't want to ring it out biglaugh

Some progress. No drips from the front of the block last night so I can actually clean the garage floor now biglaughbiglaugh

I didn't do that tho. I got stuck into the exhaust tonight. And I'm really pleased it's way quiter. On cold start. Got load left Todo but here tonights progress.

Looks like the old silencer is home made. And it doesn't have any wadding in, also the perforated tube has come adrift and is just floating about in there. But it's othwis well made. And looked are tight. So not sure why it sounded like it was blowing.

The new one I made tonight sounds spot on.

Hopefully it will be much better once on the road.

I've fitted a high flow cat. Mostly to absorb Abit of noise. But will hopefully make the emmisions alittle less aggressive. I'm not sure how it got an sva in 2021 without one.

Don't judge my welds I'm definitely still working on them biglaugh

I just need to get the body panel trimmed to suite the new angle. I'm also going to make sure its outside the body.

As I can't work out why the car fills with exhaust fumes. As the old one seemed pretty good. I'm wondering if the big hole in the font wheel arch and open area into the engine bay. Is a negative pressure and it's actually sucking the exhaust gases forward? The old exhaust tip was just inside the sill panel . So my new tip will be 20/30mm proud when I'm finished. Which I hope will get it into the air steam and way from the cab.

What a difference, it's all induction noise now! Still sounds good above 5k but it's nice and quiet lower down the rpm range.

Made nippers day picking her up in it from school

Nipped to the shop for supplies and she's giggled all the way home.

I'm still getting some fumes in the cockpit but it is way better. I need to have a think about where that's coming from..

I Also need to make a new ally cover plate as got my measurements out somewhere with the 45deg tail pipe. Easy enough to sort tho. An I want to blank the holes of I'm the font of the sills as there just filling up with debris from the tyres. So got some alloy sheet on order.

Can't believe how much the little exhaust grows when hot. It contacts the back of the hole once hot. Once I have then new ally I'll set it at the front of the hole with a good 20mm to the rear so it has room to move.

So much more enjoyable now it's not embarrassingly loud.
