Yeah the job they do is top notch so no worries there.

I did do a lot of thinking before I decided what I was going to do but I have no regrets since the car is staying.

Good to hear! Well, the parts, subframe aside, have been collected. The chap who's going to be working on my car isn't in until Monday, so that should be when the lights come off and they can get started. Messaged KYCS just to keep them in the loop RE days/expectations.

I think that the lights (colours aside which is very much a personal thing and not to my OEM+ sensibilities) look great and would really modernise the look of the car.

Like you, I personally prefer OEM in most cases.

I may have missed it - are you sending your lights away to sort the condensation problem?

If so, where are they going?

Yes, the lights are getting sent away here - https://www.keepyourcarsafe.co.uk/

The trouble is, I do like decent lights....I will get new lenses, whilst the current ones are actually in good condition regarding UV damage/clouding (they're surprisingly good, actually) they have got some small stone chips etc, and it seems prudent to get new ones whilst the lights are off). I'm also almost certainly going to get new projectors and bulbs too laugh For just resealing they would cost £204 for the pair (assuming you send the lights to them).

As said previously, the chap who will be working on my car only does Monday to Wednesdays. He'll therefore get cracking on Monday. Hopefully the lights can get sent away at some point next week. The top mounts aren't due to get to them until 7th December, which means, unless they can get someone else to fit them whilst my guy is off, the car won't be ready until Monday or Tuesday 11th/12th December. Due to working hours I may not be able to collect it until the end of the week (unless they can bring it to me, which is a possibility). That all assumes there are no hiccups, which I'm sure there will be with such a massive job!

Autodoc had a 46% off sale yesterday. I wanted to replace all 4 lambda sensors (they have a lifespan of 90-100k miles apparently, my car is on 91k), I had planned on doing this next spring. Someone convinced me it seems sensible to do it now whilst they will already be removing the exhaust....so I ordered 4 lambda sensors yesterday to be sent straight to my Man. There are pre- and post-catalytic converter sensors, and then one for each bank of the engine. I got these for £252, and they're Bosch ones.

I was tempted to get all new coil packs, but alas, they only had brands in that I had never heard of, so opted against that.

I have never spent so much on a car, but I am enjoying the process with this one. With my last car (Lexus LS460) I didn't love it enough to genuinely want to spend money on it to titivate it, whereas with this I do. I could have got away with running this car MUCH cheaper than I am doing. I mean, the whole suspension rebuild and new subframe is totally unnecessary if one looks at the fact the car still drives fine, but is bound to be a bit more tired by having 12 years and 91k miles under its belt. I could have done the same with the Lexus, but I didn't enjoy the car enough to want to do that. So that would be better for the wallet, but less for the soul laugh

I will genuinely have one of the best driving "OEM" spec cars out there. A couple of people have said I should have gone for solid/aluminium subframe bushes, and I probably should have, but this would have been a faff, potentially required me to get the subframe worked on elsewhere (if special tools are needed) and at the end of the day, box fresh bushes are bound to be better than the current ones!

I was told earlier this week they'd be starting work this coming Monday, and it's booked in for 3 full days. However, I got these images this morning.....

This means the lights can be sent off either tomorrow or, more likely, Monday.

Irritating, was a delay in them arranging courier collection. They were meant to collect yesterday but they never did. Having spoken to DHL they said "no parcel was supplied" which is BS. Apparently they'll be collecting today.

In other irritating news, BMW have said the top mounts are due in on the 6th..... To Germany. Up to 1 week from there. So that's delayed everything by a week frown

Fault code suggests lambda sensor, not a coil. Considering I'd already ordered those I'm pleased with that.

Front suspension is off and most of the rear too, apparently. They've also ordered me front drop links as they were coming off anyway. If I'm VERY lucky I'll get it back for next weekend, but I anticipate the week after. It'll be over 4 weeks without it frown

As above; it'll all be worth it in the end

And with the weather currently; it's best to be kept off the roads IMO

Need to keep it pristine biggrin

Yeah, no bad thing I guess, just want it back biggrin I would say it keeps the miles down, but being on 91k it's hardly a low mileage car.

Best case scenario, really, is that BMW Germany get the parts on the 6th, they arrive to my garage on 13/14th - and they can fit them then. But the main guy doing the work on my car won't be in Thursday onwards, however, I know someone else there (who fitted my rear dampers) will be in, so perhaps he can do them - in which case next weekend is possibly feasible, but likely the week after, assuming no hiccups.

Haha I do get that; but it's having done what it needs and you don't want that rushed etc

Think of it as a lovely Christmas pressie to you, from you biggrin

When you get it back that is... wink

I hope so! They won't be touching it today but they'll start the rear on Monday. They can't really start fitting the front end until the top mounts arrive.

I got some messages from the headlights people yesterday, who have said my lights have arrived. They will start on them on Monday. They sent me some photos of the set up I'll be having and it looks like they will be a lot better than they currently are.

I anticipate getting the car back week commencing 18th December, all being well.

That's not too bad really; it's a lot of work and not to be rushed...

You'll get it back just in time for the deluge of Christmas snow biggrin

I haven't got a car to get there laugh

I have asked them to clean up the underside and spray Dynax there once the subframe is removed.

In the summer I'll get the arch liners removed and do the same then.

RE the headlights, KYCS sent me some pics of what will effectively be the same setup as what I'm going for - same projectors, bulbs etc, the only difference is the car (X5) and they've. Got custom shape angel eyes. They look much brighter than my current set up. Wouldn't surprise me if my bulbs are the originals.
