Funny one just thinking here.

My lounge PC is a pita, two times in as many months the Bluetooth won’t fire up and the controllers are useless, cue kids kicking off.

It turns out on my mobo static build up does something weird and causes it to fail.

You unplug the PSU and hold in the power button for a minute or two and voila, BT back again.

Maybe, long shot, static/charge is causing issues?!

It’s weird how this issue arrives with battery off for a while then re-connecting.

Bad earth, or ground, or a static issue?!
Quite possibly. I thought I might have dislodged something when I took the bout apart to do the shocks and clean the crap out beneath the trims but it was working until the other week.

We can receive calls through the adapter to stream music so its not the end of the world.

Mixed - see the E91 beard thread. No holes thankfully!

I wanted to ask you though - the arch liners seem like they might be a right git to get back in - is that the case?
My liners weren’t too bad to get back in place. The rears are easier than the fronts because they’re more flexible.

Is the MULF what does the SOS thing too?

My SOS warning came on after a bunch of jobs that included battery disconnected etc.

It’s either a battery in them that goes, or a delicate bit that gets a bump and fails.

My BT is working ok however, but iirc it’s all the same unit, so lots of modes of failure?
I’m not 100%. The error is no communication to the module. The radio still works just fine, but the factory Bluetooth no longer works.

The guy yesterday says it’s a relatively common issue but annoyingly a replacement isn’t plug and play; it needs coding. I’ll look into getting it sorted in due course assuming that removing it and plugging it back in hasn’t worked.

A MULF is plug and play on an E81.. You just end up with the donor car's VIN as your bluetooth ID.

When I buy a new one, I’ll chuck it in and see if it works. If not, I’ll have to get it coded.

As much as I like the 330i, I feel like it really starting to test my patience a wee bit….

First up was a wash because it looked pretty sorry for itself with the farmers being busy and turning the local roads into mud baths!

Obligatory snow foam picture

Over the last few weeks, I’ve painted a second diffuser gloss black which was fitted once the car was clean. Before popping in the glass black diffuser, I painted the small bumper insert with Plastidip. The insert is glued in and is crazy expensive.

Once that was dry, I popped in the new black diffuser which I think looks loads better.

After it was cleaned, I decided to crack on with the oil cooler and filter housing gaskets and the aux belt, idler pulley and tensioner. The gaskets were leaking a decent amount.

The oil has been dripping on the belt / pulleys and sprayed over the air box.

Rad fan whipped out to give me a bit more room.

It’s obviously been leaking for a while.

And this is where it all went a bit tits up….I removed the old belt and used brake cleaner to remove as much of the crap as I could. I then removed the oil cooler.

One very crispy gasket

And the reason it went tits up? Someone has been here before and done the lower bolt for the filter housing up so bloody tight that they’ve wrecked the bolt. I couldn’t get an E10mor an 8mm spanner or socket to grip because the head is ruined. They’ve also stripped the lower bolt for the oil cooler which explains why the two upper bolts were so tight. bks.

I popped in a new oil cooler gasket for now.

I’ll order a used filter housing from a breaker this weekend and get that fitted over the coming days. I think the bolt closet to the Mickey Mouse flange will need drilling out.

After this debacle. I cracked on with the belt, tensioner and idler. Manky old tensioner.

And removed

New one ready to go in.

The next debacle was the belt that came with the kit was too bloody short so I had to scoot off to ECP to grab a longer one. Once buttoned up the car started just fine.

I did however notice this as well.

Looks like I’ll add this pipe to the list of bits.

Just a pain in the arse to be honest.

That pipe isn’t looking goo clever. Will be interesting to see how much BMW want to bum me for one.

Old BMW's like to fight you! However, I'd rather be dealing with old BMW issues than old Ford issues! Once these bits are done it will do you for another 100k/many years!

Rear diffuser looks good!

It shouldn’t have been a hard job and in this case it’s the fault of the ape who ignored the torque settings for a those bolts. Hey ho. Getting that bolt out could be an absolute sod.

The diffuser isn’t bad for a rattle can jobbie.

Ugh, what a pain when you come across bodged work by ham fisted monkeys censored

I had a very similar coolant hose on my E91 330i which also had an oil leak from those gaskets, so I'm guessing it's the oil that causes the hose to swell. I used the opportunity to replace the mickey mouse flange with a metal version, the plastic original part started to disintegrate very easily when I was removing it.

I'm surprised that you took the fan out, it's required on the N54 but I never bothered on my N52 as I felt I had plenty of room to do the belts and gaskets. That said, it's pretty ready to take out the fan on a manual car, as it doesn't have the annoying bolt underneath that autos have that requires removal of the undertray.

Aside from prior bodgery the car is looking great!

The fan is so easy to remove that it’s rude not too; it’s one plug; one screw and a clip and some wriggling. I figured why make my life harder than it needs to be.

I’ve bought a new (used) housing tonight which should be here in a few days. I just need to battle with that bolt at some point.

I’ve emailed the parts team for a quote on new bolts and that hose.

Fair enough on the fan, being a manual you're right it's all pretty easy and done from the top. I felt I didn't need the extra space on the N52 but it was all pretty straightforward on mine.

Actually looking at your pics again that looks like the radiator top hose rather than the mickey mouse flange hose. I ended up replacing mine on the 330i as it was also swollen, it's not expensive and is an easy job, as long as the connection to the radiator comes off OK (mine did with a bit of persuasion but I've read about it being a real pig in some cases).

No sign of the darklines yet? I think it looks great with the red tint, just wondering when they're going to turn up.

I did the gaskets on the 125i just fine with the fan in place but since I was thinking asking the belt off as well, I thought the extra bit of access would be beneficial.

I’m preparing for a fight with that hose! laugh I’m guessing that it’ll be quite messy so I’m considering draining the coolant first.

The ETA for the dark lines into Germany is now December! If it slips beyond that, I’ll see if I can cancel the order and get a refund and stick with the tints.

Just give it a good wiggle before you even start pal; that should loosen it off a touch... They do like to stick though, E39s were a sod for that too...

IIRC it'll be around £40 for the pipe from BMW; I always went with Febi ones via BMWmotormec and/or C3BMW, they deliver next day too FYI

Some plonker been in there before?

Didn’t have torque wrench I assume, for the single use ally bolts?

My oil filter housing gasket is clearly fine as it was dry as a bone around mine when I did the aux tensioner.

Deffo gonna check those hoses though. That doesn’t look great as a failure mode. Coolant one day, none the next type scenario hehe

Yeah, I think it was this guy…

25nm is naff all. Either that or they tried to stop it leaking by doing bolts up rather than change the gaskets.

Hey ho.

I didn't bother draining the coolant on mine, just caught what I could when the hose came off and topped up with fresh stuff. You do get a fair amount out considering how high it is, but still a pretty small proportion of the total coolant capacity.

That's crazy re the darklines. I can only guess they're build to order now or something, and they run a batch when there's a sufficient backlog.
