Ah, bummer about the rear arches! You'll maybe remember I had to get mine done on the 335i wagon.

I paid £200 for a mobile welder, and I provided a 500mm x 500mm sheet of 1mm steel. He did it on the driveway within 2 hours - was very impressed. Maybe see if you can find a mobile chap, rather than a bodyshop which may be more expensive?
Yeah it’s a pisser. I’d assumed that the near side would be the worst and that one was solid.

The quiet from the bodyshop was the same as that assuming best case scenario that it hadn’t spread too far into the actual wing.

It’s a job for the spring / summer. Hopefully the rust treatment will stop it getting any worse. There’s a slight blister on the other wing so I’ll wait and get both sorted at the same time.

If I had t taken the liner off, I’d be none the wiser.

Scrubs up really well Sam...

I take it a xenon conversion isn't the cheapest of options?
It’s more expensive than it used to be.

If I can find some lights that aren’t too shagged I’ll probably look into it next year. These bulbs will hopefully be better until then.

One of the first upgrades I did on my first E91 was to replace the halogens with OE bi-xenons. It's actually a relatively easy upgrade if you can code and you're not bothered about self levelling (they will work fine with the manual levelling control).

My current E91 LCI has factory adaptive xenons so I haven't had to retrofit on this one, but to be honest I think the pre-LCI xenon headlights are the sweet spot on these as the angel eyes are much better. LCI ones (and all E92/E93) have a really crap design that means the inner ring is much brighter than the outer, whereas the pre LCI E90/E91 rings light up pretty evenly and look great with LED bulbs. I also don't like that the adaptive xenon doesn't have a proper separate main beam, as it uses the inner bulb as a largely pointless cornering lamp. I fitted good quality LED bulbs in the main beam of my pre LCI xenons, and combined with the open flap on the xenon bulb it was like turning the road into daylight when driving at night on dark country roads biggrin

If it wasn't for the fact that the LCI xenon lights have LED indicators which makes the car look a bit more modern I'd be tempted to fit the pre LCI headlights into my LCI to get the better angel eyes and main beam!

I’ll keep an eye out for some in the coming months and once I’ve sorted out the other bits.

I’ll happily pop on some pre-LCI xenons; ti be fair the main thing I want is the angel eyes. I agree about the E92/3 and the uneven illumination of the angel eyes.

Always the way; but we both know how bad the halogens on BMWs can be...! They were horrendous on my E39s (even the wife's Racing Jazz halogen headlights are better than E39 halogens)!

But swapping them for xenons made a massive difference; much more confidence when driving at night etc

Yeah BMW halogens are dog st; they weren’t acceptable on the E46 let alone the later cars. laugh

I’ll most likely do the retrofit but it’s just a long way down the list….

I’m getting the FRM II fitted and coded on Saturday so my angel eyes work properly plus it’ll give me more options like the angel eyes illumination when the car is locked / unlocked.

I’m waiting for the new B4S dampers to arrive. I’ll fit the Eibachs then and change the sway bar bushes. The rest of the suspension will be refreshed in the spring. I have all of the rear bushes, I just need arms.

The pulley kit and oil filter / housing gaskets are on the way too so I’ll sort those leaks out too.

I might drop the from bumper off for painting in Monday too.

You've enough going on Sam!

I've just started creating my shopping list on Autodoc for the arms & links I'll be replacing on my F31

Just need to sit down and think/read a bit more on what to replace the shocks/springs with... Still really fancy the Bilstein B16s though...

Indeed!

Once it’s driving right, I’ll dive into the rust.

I’m also going to do the valve cover gasket and replace the CCV this winter (I’ll bring it into the garage one wet, cold weekend when I’ve got nowt better to do).

I still have my pre LCI xenons in the loft. Let me know if you're looking for a set and I'll dig them out. Pretty sure they're in good condition, certainly better than most on the used market.

If you want to fit them properly (with separate control of the bi-xenon flap) you'll need to upgrade your FRM to an XE model and run a wire from the headlights to the FRM. Or you can just tap into the existing main beam wire which means the xenon flap works with the main beam. In practice it makes no difference (unless you code the FRM to use only the xenon main beam) but it depends how much of a purist you want to be. I don't have a spare XE FRM as I left it in the car when I sold it to retain enhancements like welcome lights and DRLs.

If they’re not shagged I’d be interested. I’d rather buy from someone on here than take a chance on eBay!

I’ll drop you an email.

They're not mint (classic eBay term for anything that's just short of shagged biggrin) but they worked a treat, probably better than my all singing and dancing LCI adaptive headlights redface

I can get plenty of pics so you can decide for yourself, including with them illuminated as I have a spare wiring connector and chunky bench power supply to test them.

Cheers. Some of the eBay jobbies look nailed; broken brackets, scratched to hell, yellow etc. Then they want about a million pounds for them. laugh

I had the FRM II module fitted and coded to the car today so the angel eye lights are now in a s DRL’s without the dipper beams being on. It’s also got things like welcome lights coded to the car.

I did discover when the chap plugged in ISTA that the TCU module has died which will explain why the factory Bluetooth doesn’t work any more. I’ll have a quick look at it tomorrow to check that I didn’t disturb a connection when I had the boot apart to for the rear shocks. If not, looks like I’ll need to get a new module which don’t look too expensive having scoured eBay this afternoon.

And was it good news or bad news?

Had a look a the MULF and can’t see any obvious damage or loose connections that will have caused the Bluetooth to give up the ghost. Looks I need to order one from a breakers and get it coded.

Is the MULF what does the SOS thing too?

My SOS warning came on after a bunch of jobs that included battery disconnected etc.

It’s either a battery in them that goes, or a delicate bit that gets a bump and fails.

My BT is working ok however, but iirc it’s all the same unit, so lots of modes of failure?

Mixed - see the E91 beard thread. No holes thankfully!

I wanted to ask you though - the arch liners seem like they might be a right git to get back in - is that the case?

I’m not 100%. The error is no communication to the module. The radio still works just fine, but the factory Bluetooth no longer works.

The guy yesterday says it’s a relatively common issue but annoyingly a replacement isn’t plug and play; it needs coding. I’ll look into getting it sorted in due course assuming that removing it and plugging it back in hasn’t worked.

Funny one just thinking here.

My lounge PC is a pita, two times in as many months the Bluetooth won’t fire up and the controllers are useless, cue kids kicking off.

It turns out on my mobo static build up does something weird and causes it to fail.

You unplug the PSU and hold in the power button for a minute or two and voila, BT back again.

Maybe, long shot, static/charge is causing issues?!

It’s weird how this issue arrives with battery off for a while then re-connecting.

Bad earth, or ground, or a static issue?!
