I know that heart sinking feeling! But, not the end of the world. Easy(ish) repair for anyone to snip that out and put a plate in and give the cavity a good drenching in wax or whatever too. The POR15 treatment you've done will help loads too.

I blathered the inner arches on my Mercedes 211 after buying it as they have a stupid design where there is a shelf and mud and road crud just sits and rots it.
It is a bit of a sinking feeling especially when I’ve grown to really like this old bus too. I think I’ve just got to accept that I’m going have to spend some money on it in the next six months.

The cills are coming off shortly. I’ll wire bush off any flaky crap and POR-15 it all.

That's a bugger Sam frown

You'll soon have that sorted though; hopefully it's not too bad and just a simple repair to sort it and then plenty of protection to keep it ship shape thumbup

The car has really really tested my patience today.

I popped out first thing to put the arch liner back on now the paint was dry and before my wife was due to take out little boy to karate I took it for a quick test drive. Brakes were fine but the clutch felt like st….balls.

Oh well, I figured I’d tell her to use my car and I’d remove the CDV and bleed the clutch.

One of the hoses into the CDV would budge. FFS. I ended up removing the hardline.

Eventually I got the little sucker off.

I then struggled to join the two pieces of clutch hose together because of corrosion. I thought I was going to have to knock the centre of the CDV out and pop that back in. Luckily I managed to remove the worst of the corrosion with some emery paper and the hoses went back together.

I thought I’d bled the clutch….testing it and nothing. Absolutely zero resistance. Balls.

I had limited to fluid so had to pop out to ECP to grab some Pagid low viscosity fluid. Broke out the pressure bleeder and there was a st load of air in the system. I’d obviously not been careful enough when bleeding the brakes and let the level get a tad too low.

There’s still a small amount of free play at the top of the clutch pedal travel that I can’t shift even with some old school bleeding technique. I can’t remember what it was like before to be honest.

Whilst the car was on stands, I decided to swap the gearbox mounts for the M3 ones that I bought yonks ago. A relatively easy job with a jack under the gearbox to support it. The top bolts are a pain because there’s limited access even with a ratchet spanner.

Brace removed, old mounts which felt pretty soft.

New M3 mounts fitted.

Popped it all back together, dropped the car back on the ground and took it for a quick drive. Felts good to drive to be fair; brakes felt good and the gear shift felt much better. When driving the bit of play at the top of the clutch pedal isn’t really noticeable.

I then washed it and the rain arrived… got as far as washing it and drying it. Sums up my day to be honest. laugh

We will have to get the boys talking about karate next time they meet up, Owen has just started.

I also chose the hour that it was raining to wash the van this afternoon.

That's a bugger about the rust! Got my old man's E90 at mine atm doing rear brakes, and have been having a poke about and a check! (Luckily very clean).

Definitely. Is Owen enjoying it?

I’ve been roped to to making something to display his belts on. laugh

It is indeed, but it is what it is. It’s an old car at the end of the day. Hopefully the cills are clean enough under the trim.

He is loving it so far, I haven't had to worry about displaying belts yet, just need to remember how to tie it...

Is it ridiculously long on him? Toby has to have his wrapped around him about five hundred times. laugh

Used the car for work today and the fuel economy was noticeably better than when we went to Wales earlier this month now the sticking calliper has been replaced. It averaged 34.4mpg over 210 miles.

I popped into the body shop to talk about a few bits….

The bumper painting is much more expensive than I remember with my 130i so I’ll just do the front for now since it’s looking pretty rough and lets the car down with loads of stone chips and lacquer peel. The rear has had a bump at some point because he spotted some filler on one corner.

The rust repair is potentially not too ruinous providing that it’s not gone into the cill and it’s not too close to the outer wing which could affect the paint.

I’ll be dropping the side skirts in the next few weeks. Hoping it’ll be decent under there and just need a wire brush and some paint.

Front dampers ordered tonight. They’re still more than I paid for the 335i or 125i but £50 a pair cheaper than they were.

eek

Good effort. I've only ever got close to that once and that was at a 80mph cruise over a few hours.

It was a fair amount of motorway work.

I went to Holyhead today, the scene of route via the A5 rather bore myself to tears on the A55 from Chester and it averaged 32.4 with me enjoying the roads where possible.

As always! laugh

I’m just trying to bring myself to accept that they won’t be in use for much longer with the weather changing.

I had the pleasure of having to go to Holyhead for work today so stole the 330i again.

I had a really good run over there today probably because I actually left on time and filled up yesterday. Stopped for a few pics on the A5.

Because I have an aversion to rush hour traffic, I make a pour of doing something on the way home so I leave Wales late and have a good run home. Usually I take my bike and ride somewhere but after the rain yesterday I couldn’t face riding so today I tuned off the A5 and headed for Llyn Gwynant to go paddle boarding and swimming. The A4086 off the A5 is a road I like too so that’s a bonus.

Got back to the car: Touring friends!

I’ve felt a tad frustrated with the car this week because there are so many jobs that need (or I want) doing on the car and the list just seems to get longer. However, I really enjoyed driving it today and it’s got under my skin a bit (much like my old 330i to be honest). Currently all is forgiven! laugh

Gave the 330i a clean today; it was absolutely hanging after the bad weather, farmers turning the lanes into mud baths and racking up over 800 miles this week.

I finally lost patience with the candles in jam jars, sorry halogen bulbs driving back from London last night; they’re utter ste. In went sone better bulbs which will hopefully be much better.

They’re a better colour match to the LED angel eyes too.

Hopefully I can get the FRM II coded to the car soon so the angel eyes work as I want them too.

Hopefully my parcels from Autodoc will arrive soon. I can then fit new front dampers and Eibach springs. I’ll be changing the auxiliary belt and oil cooler / filter housing gaskets.

Ah, bummer about the rear arches! You'll maybe remember I had to get mine done on the 335i wagon.

I paid £200 for a mobile welder, and I provided a 500mm x 500mm sheet of 1mm steel. He did it on the driveway within 2 hours - was very impressed. Maybe see if you can find a mobile chap, rather than a bodyshop which may be more expensive?

Scrubs up really well Sam...

I take it a xenon conversion isn't the cheapest of options?
