The 6 wins it for me as well, I ticked the Impreza ownership box back in 2004/5 (only because with the mileage I was doing at the time the 4.5k mile service interval on the Evo ruled it out)
Would still have a VI TME in the dream garage but sadly I think the values are a little too much for me to justify nowadays.

Yours (both) look excellent
I do about 3k a year, in the dryer months, so once per annum is ok for oils. Everything else is all done on condition now.

I'm also down to just one Evo now, the old car sold just before lockdown came into place.

I agree, very good looking cars IMO. The 5 and 6 are best with the flared arches.

Agreed. I think the TME front has aged better than the 5 and 6 counterparts.

Yep, if I'd been doing that kind of mileage back then I'd have gone the E6 route for sure, unfortunately I was on almost 1k a week back then (it was a company car) so a Mitsi would have been in the garage once every 6 weeks or so which just wasn't practical.
The blue one on page 1 (the one owned by my Dad 1999-2005) was serviced every 10k or so. Had it from new, put ~107,000 miles on it, tracked it as often as possible, and it was an unbelievably reliable car. I don't remember it needing much more than fuel and brake pads! biglaugh

I'd never liked the fact the car was completely stripped, so I set about finding a carpet, rear seats, parcel shelf, b/c pillar trims and centre console.

I can't afford a GT3 "Clubsport", so for moment this will have to do:

Before:

During:

After:

The console needed some fine dremel work in order to accomodate the CAE shifter, but I'm rather happy with the result. Should make for more comfortable journeys to the track.

I installed a PIAA HID kit, and took it for a quick spin around the village.

Finally got this out on track the other week, at long last. All was well until about 4.30 when the turbo let go.

Looks great.

Had a 6 back in 2001. Moved on to an 8 a few years later. Did prefer the 8 to drive tbh, but the 6 is deffo the looker of the evo range.
I’ll keep my 6 for rawness, and have an 8-9 for road use.

Read this thread from the beginning following the front page article and was worried you'd binned it at Brands!
Thank you for pointing out that I was on the front page, I had no idea! biggrin

Most of us are holding out for the 25 year magic 'R32 GTR' effect to do with legal importation to the States. You can pick one up for 5k or 50k, it all depends on condition. The biggest problem with them is corrosion, they're almost entirely water soluble. frown

For me the best to drive is a 6 or 7 semi or full RS with some more power, brakes and suspension, including full polybushing!
Absolutely, once Mitsubishi changed to WRC spec and dumped Group A properly, the road cars went a bit soft.

I'm sure that an Evo of this era feels fast, but are they actually that fast compared to the plethora of 300+ HP hot hatches commonly available now?
New cars bore me to tears, there's such a lack of driver engagement if you can't spend £100,000 plus.

Sure a 335D could probably walk away in a straight line, but.. sleep

I should update this for the tail-end of 2020 I suppose...

I got the car back in November after the turbo fiasco, and ended up having new front disks at the same time as I'd cracked the fronts at Brands. (I know, hero right?) It had a Evo 9 '80 series' installed, and a remap to suit (limited to 1.4 Bar). I managed to sneak it out of the garage for a quick drive a few weekends back, and it felt great. I don't seem to have lost anything by losing the 6 RS turbo.

The RS unit was most definitely failed though:

Somewhere on the run-up to Paddock is my turbine, if anyone finds it let me know! laugh

That's time at the bar this year though, as the gritters are now out and about in South Bucks.

Pulled it out of the garage for a trackday at Snetterton last week, and C&M the week before, was going well.

No real plans at the mo, other than get out and pedal it when it's dry.

Another near 12 months since the last update...

I managed Combe in August 2021, as was going well despite having not been there before:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQrn0KMZS_E

It was a nice relaxed day, quiet, and I got plenty of clear track time. I also had another stab at Snetterton with 'race cars only' day in September and had a good time sharing space with GT3 (FIA) cars and such.

Then I made another trip up to C&M with a friend and his V RS.

The trackdays made me realise that compressor surge isn't all that pleasant, which I was suffering under partial throttle. So, just before winter 2021 I had a Link ECU, OEM 9 recirc valve, and associated gubbins/map installed at MAD. The difference is incredible, it's so much better at partial throttle than it's ever been. Now that the MAF is redundant, I plan on replacing the charge and intake piping for something less scabby.

The winter 2021 project was to pull the front bumper off, replace all the hardware behind, and repaint the bumper shell:

As I pulled it apart, it was apparent that all the screws and bolts needed replacing. I used Mitsubishi parts wherever possible, and stainless steel items where Mitsubishi parts were NLA. The intercooler was in ok shape, so I refurbished that and it came out quite well.

The bolts and framework were a bit of a mess..

The paint work is incredible, I'm very happy with the results.

I also had the bumper bar, supports, and mesh media blasted and powder coated. I had a result in finding an OEM oil cooler duct hidden in one of my parts boxes, which are long discontinued and I had forgotten I had it, so that's been installed in place of the fabric tow strap.

Whilst having the bumper painted, I had a spare pair of mirrors painted matt black, and fitted black door handles. Let's call it a TME RS homage...

Looks amazing.

I sold my 5 around 2016, looked at getting back into one recently and almost cried when I saw how much people are asking for now.

Are they genuinely selling for over £20k or is it ambitious asking prices? Seen loads of eBay auctions around the £15k mark but fail to make reserve.
There are no good cars for sale at the moment IMO, and there hasn't been for a while. Most good 5/6 sales are done privately, and without advertisement. Mileage is irrelevant at this point, if a car is rust free and relatively original it will sell for 20k+. I have mine insured for a lot more than 20k, for example.

I would assume most owners are sitting on the 5/6 until they're 25 years old. The early 5's will reach (or have reached, I'm not 100% sure) this age this year, and Americans are already buying both 5 and 6s and keeping them stored here and in Japan for future shipping. The 'red ones with stickers' are a law unto themselves, and I don't understand the pricing on them, at all.

That’s interesting, TMEs were a joke back when I had mine, especially with the revelation at the time they a load of the red ones were replicas built by Monster.

This is one I was looking at, if it’s as clean as it looks in the pics then it’s defo worth the money, but there’s other ‘fresh’ imports that are asking not too far off the same.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294821836353?mkcid=16&a...

Anyway, not to de-rail the thread, yours looks fantastic. Don’t make the same mistake as I did and flog it lol. Absolutely nothing drives like a well sorted 5/6.
Yeah that one looks good, at least in photos. Even so, it's got a large gap 2012-2016 with no history on it.

I wouldn't worry about de-railing the thread, it's not been that popular in the last year or so! whistle

There's only a couple of things from Stuttgart that would make me sell, and I can't make that happen quite yet.

Totally agree with you. Your car looks lovely mate. Fellow white Evo owner here. Mines getting to the point of needing some serious cash investments but still love it.
I think they’re now at the point where it’s ok to financially dote on them, in that you’ll see some of the money back!

Parts, now that’s another story. More and more going ‘no longer available’!

Fantastic looking car, sure it will go fast!!

What's next?
I'm being tight lipped, there is just one specific car in mind. It's a vehicle that is modified to a similar degree as the Evo, but if it doesn't work out I will simply keep the Evo.

Hi!

I’ve recently done a 2k mile journey to the south of France and back via the Alps (from the Frejus tunnel to Nice) in an FK8 Civic Type R and I was truly blown away by how good it was at every part of the journey!

Motorway cruising was a big surprise and so were all the controls and ability in the Alps and it was plenty fast enough standard power but I didn’t think about selling my 6!!

I know you’ve loved this car, I hope you don’f regret selling it!
I will regret it, I know I will. It's a fantastic machine, one capable of making me grin like not many can. But, the replacement is / will be just as wonderful.
