Pedal set in and holes for the masters are cut. Just need a strengthening plate to turn up.

Old shifter had seen better times…

New one is nice!

Mrs bought a treadmill, which is right in the way…

Since I’ll need to find somewhere else for that to live, I’ve moved onto the wiring.

I hate wiring. Especially when someone’s been in there before you..

Cut a mile of s**t wiring out of it.

Can actually see where things go now.

Shouldn’t be as hard as I expected. As I can just fold the loom over to get some things over to the “new” drivers side.

In the quest for a more original dash I needed a few things.

Along with making a proper wiring diagram.

1, proper switches. Amazingly Lucas still make them! So ordered some new originals. Still waiting on two more to come.

2, I was also missing one gauge the originals would have, oil temp! I had pressure but no temp. So now I’ve got a new Cobra spec one from auto meter.
Auto meter is an off the wall choice, as the originals were all Smiths. Competition cars would end up with Auto Meter ones in, as they are all mechanical and far more robust than the “cheaper” smiths one.

It’s lovely though.

Given the space available, getting the engine back in seems like it'd be about as simple as your pictures make it look...

What fresh unexpected hell did you encounter? hehe

I don't really have any space in my garage, so have to have the crane sideways in front of the car to hang the engine gearbox, then crank it up to the ceiling and swing it over, it's all a bit awkward, but actually getting it in place is relatively easy, although the Monaro engine bay is fairly empty now.
Box in - 10 mins

Engine in - 45mins

Getting them to join together - Most of my adult life!

After its first start back in the car it had 70psi of oil pressure too. Lovely.

Having the flywheel sorted has stopped a lot of the shake at idle too.

I guessed at the timing when setting it up. Once I got the gun on it, I was only 4deg out! Amazing.

Just fitted the brake reservoirs and started to bleed it up.

Made a new dash panel by binding 1.5mm Ali to the old dash frame.

Dash done, will cover it tomorrow!

Covering it went to s**t. So it’s in with only the foam on it….

Ordered some different vinyl for the dash which will come next week.

All up and running nicely.

So I've done an alignment with my £20 string kit...

I should fit the bonnet but it’s quite cool looking without it. To get it to fit, I need to lower my brake resv'd by around 15mm.

I gave it all a wash polish and seal.

I did wonder if it would be that hehe

I fitted mine together outside of the car and tilted the whole lot in at a terrifying angle.

Fitting it together though was a nightmare. This turned out to be because the twin clutch plates weren't actually aligned well enough, so it'd slide in to the first but not the second... It was after much fecking about (including ignoring it for weeks in a strop) that I decided to try re-aligning them, and then the bd thing slid together like a hotdog down a hallway. Lesson learned hehe

Car looks great cloud9
My issue was the tooth indents on the Spec clutch were just slightly too tight for the input shaft and none of the gearbox bolts were long enough to 'walk' the engine and gearbox together with!

Also whoever designed the floating input shaft on a T5 gearbox needs to have a talking to.
