Doing a trip to Itally in a few weeks time. Probably doing the Mont Blanc tunnel on way out, but would like to do the Little St Bernards Pass on the way back. Does anyone know on what day this or any other Alpine passes open for trafffic?

Thanks

Lisa, drop me an email with your planned route & destination, and I'll tell you which passes are currently open - not many at the moment, I'm afraid!

Alternatively, call me on 01425 476364 and I'll be pleased to help

Have a great evening!

Hi, a short post 'cos my connection is crap.

Am in Nancy right now on my way back from a week in the french alps in my MG RV8. Its roasting down there. I didn't have any sun screen and mon visage est comme un crisp, flambed par le soleil.

Mont Ventoux was baking, BUT it was still closed from the ski station up because they haven't cleared the road of rocks and branches yet, but the cafe owner told me there is no snow up there. Also, the road only gets opened when the prefecture says so, and not a moment before! I dare say its the same for many passes.

In Aix les bains last night it was 21 degrees at 10pm. Nancy is not south but its warm and sticky at the mo.

From what I've sen there is no snow on roads at 2000 metres. I've only seen snow on the very tops of peaks, and even then I had to use the binocs. Its frustrating 'cos I would have planned a more adventurous trip had I known the weather.

I reckon France could be in for another heat wave.

E-mail sent Jo, or perhaps I could give you a ring tomorrow. (Bit late tonight, and I've only just seen your reply.)
