Need route help around Swaffham
Discussion
I'm involved in planning a weekend away for a car club next summer and part of the plans are to run some early morning trips for the more enthusiastic drivers before breakfast.
What I need are a couple of routes that take in about 30-40 miles, 50 max, preferably with a nice variety of twisties, hairpins, sweepers and of course some straight bits to stretch the legs. Obvisouly, needs to start and finish in Swaffham.
Can anyone help? If so, please let me know by reply or contact me via my profile if you'd prefer to keep the routes private.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think Norfolk has any real outstanding driving roads- you simply don’t get the elevation changes to make a road truly 'great’. However, a couple of suggestions gleaned from ‘hooning’ my Seven around:-
As mentioned the B1108 from Hilborough to Watton is superb (the best in the area for fast sweeps). Add on the A1075 Watton to Dereham (the ‘Ovington bends’ are
). Unfortunately you then need the A47 to get back to Swaffham, which is very dull and tends to be busy.
As an alternative I’d also suggest: A1065 North to Fakenham (open sweeps), then B1146 to South to Brisley (twisty and challenging), West onto B1145 (good straights for overtaking and some interesting ninetys
) back to the junction with A1065. Keep on the B1145 over Massingham Heath- twisty at first, then opens out into some blinding crests and sweeps with a couple of handy straights as well. Take a left as you enter Gayton village (signed Narborough), which is twisty lane torture for 8 miles or so, then it’s a few miles on the A47 back to Swaffham.
I hope that makes sense. Oh- if you go to Hethel, make sure you drive the road between the A11 and B1113 at Wreningham (the turning to Hethel is mid-way along it). It’s only 5 miles or so, but legend has it that Lotus engineers used to road test their cars along it! Due to its’ (shall we say) challenging nature, it now has a 50mph limit, but is good fun even at reduced pace.
<serious mode>The usual rules apply please- don't spoil it for everyone- please be sensible and stay safe</serious mode>
Hope this helps- Stu I've e-mailed you some more detail on the routes should you need it.
