As subject really - not after anything "challenging" just a decent route that is fairly free flowing with some decent scenery.

I tend to head off towards the whole Ashbourne/Uttoxeter/Buxton/Matlock area but I wondered if I'm missing anything obvious in other directions?

Bit too local fancy something different. I took a trip up the A51 nearly as far as Chester and came back via the A41 - quite good fun, funny how you get a nice car and almost just want to spin around stop and drive in whatever direction you're facing

Haven't been down there for a long time but this was my favourite B road a few years back.

Not so much a route as a stretch of road.

If heading from Lichfield on the A515 turn left off the A515 at the Hoar Cross crossroads heading for Newborough. Go straight through Newborough towards Abbots Bromley. This stretch can be a bit bumpy in places but certainly has a nice flow to it. Reasonable straights and some nice gradients. Distance is approx 3 to 4 miles to Abbots Bromley.

Entering Abbotts Bromley turn right at T-Junction heading for Uttoxeter and mooch through the village. Exiting the village keep going straight on all the way to Uttoxeter. Again a lovely flow and edges onto a forest (watch out for deers!!) for the first part. Road opens into a long straight after the junction for Kingstone with the road then ending at the top of the Uttoxeter Stafford road.

Alternative when heading out of Abbots Bromley is to take 1st left when outside of village heading towards reservoir. Road otherside of reservoir isn't up to much but the hill coming up from the reservoir back towards Abbots Bromley feels like a mini Eau Rouge!!

Haven't looked but may be worth posting on the Midlands forum if you are looking for routes further afield?
