Looking for some advice on routes to take traveling from Calais to Monaco for the Historic GP in 3 weeks. I wanted to see Reims and also go over the Millau Viaduct. We are giving ourselves a day and a half to get to Monaco ( by Porsche ). We were planning on staying somewhere near the Millau Viaduct overnight prior to our last leg to Monaco. Any suggestions on quality places to stay? where the car will be safe ect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

With that timetable you don't have much choice except to stick to the autoroutes and direct routes!

I'm sure you've done the calcs & see the Millau thing adds about 100 miles to the journey.

It does, however, cut out the Alps. I don't know how many times you've driven either location, but give me the Alpine experience over the bridge each time!

(You will, presumably enjoy an Alpine pass or two on the way home!)

Juat sat here trying to plan our honeymoon trip. Working out how we can take in the Millau bridge, Col de Torini, the Nurburgring and the Stelvio Pass

Eh ?

The Stelvio is in N Italy and isn't for beginners.

Try something easier back home first - Hard Knott Pass springs to mind.

I'm unsure that I can be bothered to type out advice on Calais-Monaco as have already done so several times in other threads where it can equally well be read.

Reims is on your way - the motorway goes straight through it.

Not sure where the bridge is. Equally not sure why Calais-Monaco would necessitate a trip via the Alps.

Quickest route is Calais-Reims-Dijon-Lyons-Avignon-Aix-Monaco on the autoroutes. Can be done in a day as takes around 12 hours IIRC from my last trip (assumes traffic is ok) at prudent speeds (140-160kph).

Would love to see the historic GP - am going to the normal one but I gather the historic is more fun.

Divot Life (and driving) is not all about necessity!

Clump of grass yerself! Well obviously Monaco lies in the Alpes Maritimes but he said he had a day and a half and it took me two days of driving (albeit with stops for lunch etc obviously rather than snatching sarnies at petrol stations) going autoroute to Valence and then cutting down via the Route Napoleon. So if you went any further into the Alps proper, I think you'd have a devil of a job getting there in the time allotted!

Millau Viaduct - Is that just north of Montpellier???? Sorry I can't help with hotels.

I am also going to the Historic GP in Monaco also in a Porsche (964). Not quite as far as you (Scotland?)

We leave early on Thursday morning, then we are spending the afternoon and evening in Reims and Epernay then driving onto Monaco on Friday.

Where area you staying in Monaco - We are in Cap D'ail.

Let me know if you want to meet up on the way down or maybe in Monaco for a beer?
