It is -although in my view (and it`s where I grew up) the best bit is actually beyond zig zag, up in them hills...

I use zig zag hill twice a day

Very entertaining in the right car

my Alfa loved screaming up there on the red line in second.....my bloody diesel Audi smokes it's way up there shifting between 2nd and 3rd making the with the usual diesel soundtrack

agreed that the roads beyond are great - the route through to Ringwood is fantastic (my route home)

If you take this road on, watch out for coaches/lorries taking the hairpins on your side of the road. Also the surface on the top between Zig Zag and Tollard Royal is pretty bad.

Woke up at 7am this morning, sun was shining so went and drove this road (the B3081) in my new GTI. Great fun, did the complete road from Cranborne through to Shaftesbury and then back round to Poole (via Blandford).

Really enjoyed it - highly recommended. Be careful though; there was a mullered Impreza Turbo in a field with Police Aware stickers all over it

did it in the Chim a couple of months ago. Dad and brother also in TVR's ahead of me. Great fun but be careful when it starts opening out at the top. Poor road surfaces and big drop offs!

Saw this thread and thought I'd go have a look on my way down to the South West today. Worth the detour, for sure, but it was raining and there was loads of standing water at the top as it opens up. The hill was good fun though, although the poor surface and the wet got the better of the Alfa which pretty much wanted to go anywhere except down the road!

Yep, reasonable power, fwd, rain and that road surface do not mix (experience in my 270bhp Coupe).

Agreed, but at least it sounded nice zig zagging up zig zag hill!

DO you mean the rest of the B3081 or another road

Will be down that way soon, so might just have to make a detour

Both - B3081 is good but there are several other options in the locale!

i meant the bit between verwood and zig zag, though there are some tight spots through a couple of hamlets that i don't know the names of, there are some long straights and other good fast bends though the surface can be very bad in places

Not all local knowledge (although there is one I will keep quiet!) - I`ll have to look at a map to get the right road numbers...

Road surface is actually not too bad, there are a couple of sections where the surface has badly degraded but the camber is OK and it`s all perfectly visible so it just adds to the fun.

There is one dodgy corner, highlighted above, by the Win Green turning that has a dodgy camber, double apex, no run-off and a big drop. Good when you know it, potentially suspect when you don`t...

Hey, this bit of road was on fifth gear, doesn't really look worth the trip, too narrow!

..as above. Zig-Zag is narrow but the roads above and around it are spot on.
