Riding home from Ace cafe last night on the M1, the motorway isn't super busy everybody is doing 70+

Gantry in front is displaying NSL, I'm on cruise control about 72mph we then proceed forwards and the next gantry is showing 40mph!!

Everybody braking heavily, cars on the other side of the motorway heading southbound getting flashed left right and centre!

The repeater gantry a little further on showing NSL again!

The image above is the exact stretch to show you the distances involved, no cars broke down or anything.

Contact National Highways and ask them. Seen it a few times. Either glitch in system or for some reason that won't be apparent to the driver.

2020vision will be along in a minute to claim this doesn't happen...how someone with an online persona/attitude like he has is in a position of semi influence/pressure group (or whatever industry body he works for, as i understood it) says it all.

morons running the show.

He’s a self-employed ‘expert’ if you can believe that. No qualifications needed.

Happens fairly regularly on M25 between J28 and J27 coming up to the M11 but through a stretch with no cameras, no bridges, nowhere for a police van to be lurking.

I see this on all the managed motorways I use. Reduced limits without explanation that just go away again. No breakdown's, no debris, no increase in traffic, good visibility. I wouldn't mind but they spent millions on the big boards to display explanations and they show nothing except a big limit sign.

Had this the other day on the M6.

One gantry set at 40mph, of course everyone slams on, “Queue Caution”. There was no queue.

Next gantry NSL.

This sort of variable speed limit will inevitably create a queue or worse an accident.

It should also only be allowed for subsequent gantries to alter in 10mph stages. So eg 60 - 50 - 40 - 50 - 60 etc. I went from a 40 to the next gantry being a 60 earlier (on the M4). Of course I stick to 40 as I’m not getting a ticket for no fker, but as soon as everyone else sees 60 in the distance they speed up to 60 thus creating a dangerous situation once again whereby I’m at risk of getting rear ended.
