We’re driving from Calais to Essen for the classic motor show in April. Are there any decent roads anywhere on that route? And any derestricted autobahns?
I haven't been to Techno Classica for several years but IIRC once you get into Germany the route s either very busy with a lot of HGVs and largely two-lane or both. Some of it is (was) derestricted, my best according to my GPS was 147mph.

There are some unrestricted passages on the A44 between Aachen and Dusseldorf.
