Oxford to New Forest - decent roads en route?

I’m going from Oxford area to Brockenhurst tomorrow, but taking a GT86 so would quite like to know if there are any roads close to the A34/M3 that are worth including in the route (rather than just sitting on dual carriageway/motorway the whole time). I’ll be with my partner, so we won’t be adding too much to the journey time/taking too much of a detour.

B4494 Wantage to Newbury is fun, and my usual route for skipping part of the A34.

Thanks so much for this suggestion. Drive it south to north on the return journey, and it was a lot more enjoyable than the A34. Also, despite being Friday afternoon, it was pretty much deserted.

Used to live down that way and picking up the A343 (at A34 Highclere turn off) and heading down to Andover was always fun. Then from Andover head down to Stockbridge and from there onto the Plains. Probably all 40mph now
