M25 between J9 & J10 (Leatherhead & Wisley)
Discussion
Many readers will be familiar and probably annoyed, by the concrete surface on part of this section of the M25.
So much more road noise.
I have recently noticed (possibly only on the clockwise carriageway) a (presumably) test section, where longitudinal grooves have been cut into the concrete surface.
The road/tyre noise has been considerably reduced.
Any comments?
IIRC the concrete goes all the way to J12.
It used to make a horrendous noise years ago but newer cars seem to cope with it a bit better!
No idea if it has been improved as I've been avoiding it as much as possible since the work at J10 began, but I may be on it soon when I visit my sister in Sutton.

If, when you travel home from your sister, you join the M25 at J8 travelling west, you will pass over the section of concrete that I am referring to. Between J9 and J10, it is a very short section, perhaps just 100 yards. Parallel longitudinal grooves have been cut in the concrete surface of all lanes.
There is a noticeable road noise reduction, when on that section and I presume that it must have been done as a test section for noise reduction. If so, it certainly works.
