What are the best driving roads around London?

Hi guys,

What are the best driving roads around London?

I live in West London and love heading across the country for those beautiful roads where they are. But sometimes I want to do something shorter and more local. I prefer open views and hills, and I often combine it with a hike in those hills/mountains.

In the past I have been willing to take the car for a 4-5 hour drive, but finding it hard to find the time now. So looking for something closer.

I would appreciate any suggestions people might have.

Well I need some help with that then as I am 20 pages down and about 3 years back, and I haven't found a single one yet.
Now I might not get a reference or a road designation, but pretty hard to find even one.

Also... I think it is fair to create a new post on the subject if the last post is 3+ years old.

If you don't mind driving a bit further the A40 at Stokenchurch leading down into the Aylesbury Vale is quite nice even if a little short. If you like walking the Christmas Common has nice views.

That might be an interesting road, but yeah will need to be combined something else I guess.
