Kent driving roads? Or nearby?

Where I live, Sittingbourne, Kent, the roads seem to be absolute rubbish.
I often travel to Wales, Scotland and the Lake District to get my fix but really, would be good to know if anyone can recommend anything closer?!
It's 440 miles from Sittingbourne to Glasgow.I often travel to Wales, Scotland and the Lake District to get my fix but really, would be good to know if anyone can recommend anything closer?!
A similar distance east is Frankfurt, Germany. You could do all of Belgium,
most of Southern Netherlands, all of Luxembourg, almost anywhere west
of Frankfurt in Germany, most of France North of about Dijon and spend less
on petrol.
Just get yourself to CT18 8XX, sit on the train for 35 minutes and a large
chunk of NW Europe is available.
Be warned that the beer is better, the food is better and if you stay away
from France, nearly everyone speaks English openly to tourists.
With the possible exception of the Belgians, they are better drivers
than the Brits, too.

Born in Kent, now live in North Wales. Kent used to be lovely, truly The Garden Of England. Now it’s awful, and the roads are terribly broken up.I often travel to Wales, Scotland and the Lake District to get my fix but really, would be good to know if anyone can recommend anything closer?!

Not as good as Wales or Scotland, but a pleasant little circuit could be made by going from Canterbury to Street End, then down Stone Street to Farthing Common.I often travel to Wales, Scotland and the Lake District to get my fix but really, would be good to know if anyone can recommend anything closer?!
Keep left and head back up towards Elham, and then back to Canterbury.
Disclaimer - It's a while since I've been through Elham, but I enjoyed it when I did.

The roads in Kent are very limited, half the battle is finding the time of day when the roads are quiet. At this time of year it's about 7.30pm on a Sunday when everyone has gone home but it's still daylight. Otherwise early Sunday, crack of dawn, preferably bad weather as they are less road users.
From Sittingbourne head via Doddington towards Lenham to the A20, then from Charing to Pluckley, then turn right through Bell Lane to Three Chimneys, then at Sissinghurst, left via Chapel Lane, then left back to Tenterden..from Tenterden to Appledore, Military Road to Rye, then through Camber via Jury's Gap to Lydd, then if you like smaller twisties, via Old Romney, Newchurch, Bilsington, past Port Lympne and back up Stone Street (turn right at Six Mile via Wheelbarrow Town and Stelling Minnis/Bossingham if you find Stone St boring) or the Eahlam Valley Rd, back to A2 and home...
Or, to prolong, back from the outback Romney Marsh roads via Brenzett to Appledore, then Woodchurch, to Tenterden and back without using the A2.
That is honestly about the best roads available in Kent, the Military Rd is a real cracker, especially in winter when the vegetation is down to give sight through the chicanes.
