Terrible Road Conditions And Not Paying Road Tax
Discussion
Im sure someone much more intelligent and informed on here will be along soon to set my straight but basically why don't why all stop paying our road tax in protest to the rapidly deteriorating road conditions and safety issues they are causing?
The roads around my home in Buckinghamshire are in such a poor state that im regularly having to avoid oncoming cars because we are both spending to much time looking at the road surface or trying to avoid failed roads surfaces, oncoming traffic becomes a secondary concern. Most of the time the only way to make progress is to straddle both lanes in order to avoid the sides which have failed but in a lot of cases the whole road surface has failed. Some roads are now impassable as they are so bad.
My local council doesn't seem to care and tells me they are doing all the repairs necessary but I know there are sections of road that have not been touched or repaired in over 5 years.
It got me thinking that someone should start a petition to get everyone to stop paying their road tax in order to force the drastic repairs our roads need.
Thoughts?

Sorry couldn't resist!
Road tax was abolished in 1937.
"Funding for the maintenance of local roads is provided by the Department for Transport and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to local highways authorities, who are responsible for maintaining their road networks to an adequate standard"
In essence, we get the roads we pay for. Blame the government for the state of our road network.

A bit off topic:
There’s a little B road here in Leicestershire that always seems to have immaculate tarmac. Any imperfections seem to be repaired before they become potholes.
It’s a couple of miles long, with nothing but a few farms and a couple of houses.
I often wonder what is so special about this road that it deserves such special treatment, while the other roads in the county are allowed to deteriorate.

Where does your local councillor/MP live? There’s a little B road here in Leicestershire that always seems to have immaculate tarmac. Any imperfections seem to be repaired before they become potholes.

Is it on any special route? I know before Tour de France came through Yorkshire a lot of roads were spruced up. I also heard a conspiracy that Leeds city council revoked the licence of a strip club that was on the start line. My only regret about moving from a Dacia Duster to my current Abarth is how much better the Dacia was on the deteriorating roads.
Even here in leafy Richmond Borough SW London, some of the roads are basic off road courses with some really choice crevasses criss crossing the crumbling tarmac.
Prone to really damaging your car and potentially lethal on a motorbike.

Between ordinary villages. It is very close to Bruntingthorpe airfield, but otherwise I don't know of anything special around there.Turning Japanese said:

I assume you're also suggesting not paying for NHS or Education or Defence or any other Government or Council service, as so many of them are also poor?- snip*
Vote in a party that isn't focused on having snouts on the trough, decide that Brexst really has cost this country £billions etc etc Then maybe things might get better.
