Hotel recommendations Wales road trip

Hello fellow PH'ers. A few of my mates and I are planning a little road trip around mid wales end of May. We plan to do the Elan valley and various other routes, perhaps ending up in Aberystwyth or similar (nothing defined yet) for the Saturday night. We want a bar to have a few beers and banter, we will have 10 and 13year boys with us, and 4 blokes.

I've been searching air bnb, booking.com, hotels.com, but not really found anywhere that suits, mainly because we don't fully know where we want digs for the night, and also due to the room requirements. I've my son with me, another chap has his son, then there are 2 more single chaps.

We'd like somewhere safe to park up for the night too of course!

So looking for recommendations please. Many thanks!

Can't help with the Hotel, but if you do the Elan valley and don't end up in Aberystwyth, you will have missed a nice bit of road. Aberystwyth is probably not the best place to spend the night though. try somewhere like New Quay. or a bit further down the coast.

Lake Vrynwy Hotel is nice and some lovely roads around the area.

The road from Vrynwy to Bala is a favourite of mine, from Bala you can do the Trawsfynydd road (A4212)

OP - you could try Metropole Hotel & Spa in Llandrindod Wells. About 30mins from Elan Valley. They should have rooms catering to your requirements.

Used by a few of the car clubs, though I've not stayed there for a few years, so things may have changed. There's a Tesco petrol station up the road, and sells Super if that's your thing

Thanks for the replies. We've actually booked to stay over in Aberystwyth for the night. So will look to do some nice roads from the M4 towards the Elan valley and onto our stopover. Then some more heading towards northern mid wales on the Sunday then heading back home.

If anyone has any suggestions on good roads to go on then I'm all ears!

The cars will be 3 Porches and an R8.

Does your hotel in aber have secure parking or is it out of town?
