Girlfriend wants to spend a day or 2 down in Ludlow. Looking for any road/ pub recommendations around the immediate area. Will be travelling down from Blackpool for a 1/2 night stay. No issues with venturing into Wales for a night possibly aswell. Just looking for some recommendations. Vehicle of choice…….

The Long Mynd is worth a drive over, but possibly not in that car.
The A483 south from Newtown is good fun.

Great area to explore and Ludlow itself is a very attractive town with good pubs and restaurants.

The best roads are generally to the West of the A49 heading into Mid-Wales.

I wouldn't take your car up onto the Long Mynd, I think you'd be grounding it all over the place.

I absolutely love the long mynd but as said you may struggle.

From Ludlow the roads across to Llandridnod Wells is pretty nice.

Defo not the Long Mynd. One way up if you are in that and it is not going to be fun..

Head towards Bishops Castle, down to Craven Arms, towards Much Wenlock then right to Ludlow.

The roads into Wales around Clun are excellent. The route from Clun over the Anchor and then to Kerry Vale vineyard, for wine, coffee and scones.

Lots of really good roads in Shropshire, enjoy.

The Charlton Arms in Ludlow would be a nice place to stay... next to the river and great views over the town. Good food too.

Roads... Here's a fun 40 mile loop... A4117 to Clee Hill (watch out for sheeps) and then through Cleobury Mortimer, then off up the B4202 to Clows Top. Then follow the A456 toward Tenbury Wells (fantastic road if you get a clear run), and after Tenbury turn right up the B4214 back up to Clee Hill (theres even a little hairpin!), then at the top turn left back toward Ludlow again. Then follow the Caynham road through Caynham and back onto the A49 and into Ludlow.

The roads out toward Builth Wells, Llandrindod etc are also amazing.

Enjoy, its a beautiful area... nr where I grew up.
