Cheltenham to Solva driving routes
Discussion
After some inspiration and advice on the best driving routes from Cheltenham to Solva in SW West.
Don't want to schlep down the M4, would rather take the scenic route where I can get onto some decent driving roads. Will be able to take our time. Once we get to Carmarthen I think it's a straight route to Solva, so looking for thoughts on Cheltenham to Carmarthen.

I don't know the area well and would route something like this but I'm sure it can be improved on

Couple of detours assuming you're roughly following the path of the A40 - maybe at Abergavenny take A465 instead, then at Garnlydan take the fantastic B4560 up to Llangynidr and rejoin A40 there. Then at Llandovery take the A4069 Black Mountain Pass then and join up with the main route West around Pont Abraham.

The A4069 looks a great road, but just read in the South Wales section that they've installed average speed cameras and the limit has reduced from 60mph to 40mph..Gassing Station | Roads | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
