As a motorcyclist, I can't stand motorways and long straight roads. Waste of good rubber. So I'm curious to know if anyone out there has any good recommended routes getting from Calais to the ring. Specifically not using motorways or toll roads.
Keen to do it over a couple of days and breaking it up by staying in scenic towns or villages.

I used this method to get from the Cotswolds to Scotland (NC500) and back and it worked perfectly incorporating the Peak Districts, Yorkshire dales and Cairngorms, it really made the entire trip one of the best trips I have ever done. Barely a dull moment and no flat spot spot on my tyres. It doesn't take much skill to drive fast in a straight line (given, it's fun now and again) but it is rewarding linking bends and using the performance of an engine and it's tyres to get the best out of your skill level.

In short, looking for recommended:
- twisty roads between Calais and Nürburgring that don't involve motorways/toll roads
- accommodating towns along the route

Cheers

Not looked through this for a long time but they certainly have a route that gets you as far as Reims. Separate pages for Germany and Belgium.

I'd be wary of Best Biking Roads website for Germany. It's normally fine, but in Germany Google Street View is banned. I remember a tedious day going from Heidelberg to Trier on a recommended route - way too many 50 kph sections through villages of little architectural merit. Would have been good for posing on a Harley but ste on a proper motorbike.

You might get more responses in the Biker Banter forum BTW.

Tricky to get to without using motorways to get away from the Coast. I've run down to Namur before, then across to Huy and down to Malmedy, St.Vrith, Prum and across to Daun. That's a nice route but I did blatt down to Namur on the motorway (this was on a bike). Small road from c50-75 miles away from the coast are pretty hard going and you'd be travelling pretty slowly.

Really appreciate the route suggestion. I'll have a little play with that route. I don't mind slower roads. I'd get the speed fix when on the ring, so don't mind technical routes to get there. Keeps me alert then.

Great suggestion on Furkot. Never heard of it before and was playing around with it after your comment and seems easy to use and great for planning. Cheers
