US Road Trip - Blue Ridge Parkway
Discussion
Hello, in a few weeks I’m heading to the US to visit some family. We are starting by spending a few nights in Washington DC then picking up a car to drive down to family in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Our plan is to break up this journey with stay-overs in Charlottesville VA and Asheville NC. The first leg from DC to Charlottesville I plan on driving the Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. The next leg to Asheville is a 5 hour drive on the interstate but I’d love to add in a few hours of the Blue Ridge Parkway as well. The final leg to Knoxville I’d like to include parts of the Smoky mountains.
Does anyone have any experience of routes in this area? Any tips on what to expect and look out for on a trip like this. I have driven in the US a few times but mostly on Interstates, never through the national parks.

I drove some of the Blue Ridge in 2013 , on a 3000 mile tour tour taking in NASCAR at Charlotte, Memphis , Tennessee , Georgia and the Mississippi Delta . We had a hired Mustang , and the BRP was delightful. It would be a great road in something like a Seven , even allowing for the 40mph (?) speed limit . Scenery is superb and everyone we met was friendly - especially when they heard the English accents
